I was really contemplating getting this lens...but i was able to get my Sigma 8-16mm repaired for $200 bucks (HSM died, got moisture inside so it had some fungus also).
I wonder how the flare resistance is with this guy.

I'll be picking this up a bit later this year when the price comes down a few bucks. I had been planning to get the Pentax DFA 100 mm WR macro, though, so maybe I'll get this instead. TOO MANY CHOICES. #firstworldproblems.

Indeed! Why should we have to live with 500- or 600-grams full frame compatible lenses on our small APS-C bodies? Is it really impossible to design an APS-C only lens that is 12mm F/2 and under 300 grams for the k-mount? Are there any lens designers in the room?

It's a little frustrating to have to choose between light-but-slow or fast-but-huge, when this 12mm indicates that it seems possible to find a pretty nice balance. If such a lens is really impossible to design for K-mount, then that's an argument in favor of switching to a system that has a shorter registration distance...

Of course it is impossible and that's THE (only IMO) real advantage of mirrorless: no retrofocus design needed for wide angles because there's no mirror in the way.

Compare the size and weight of Pentax DA 14mm f/2.8 (designed for APS-C image circle but 24x36 flange-to-back distance) with those of this 12mm f/2 (designed for APS-C image circle and short-register mounts) and you could have the beginning of an answer...

Sell my new Pentax DA 14/2,8 and buy this? I think I stay with the 14mm, I already struggle with the wideness of that lens and the 10mm doesn't take filters. But tempting indeed!

Yeah, I can't imagine what a rectilinear 10mm looks like!
..but that is exactly what makes it attractive

Why yes, of course. But you did say the technical word ("retrofocus") that allows mere mortals to find the technical explanation that you didn't provide. So thanks.

Save for the sensor and its micro-lenses that "hate" slanting rays, which cause corner vignetting, magenta shift and crosstalk, and make retrofocus design even more imperative.

Sorry to disappoint. They will exist for Nikon, just more expensive...

Isn't the Nikon version more expensive because it requires some sort of chip?
That being said, I would love it if the K-mount version would submit focal length data..
