You are looking at the wrong price lists:
- 50MP Phase One IQ 250: US$34,990
- 50MP Hasselblad H5D-50c: 20,900 (~US$29,000)
Those are certainly pricey, but they are MF bodies.. not FF as I was mentioning.

The general point is that it makes more sense to compare the 645Z to it's MF format peers, not FF digital. I don't think Pentax made the 645Z to compete with the D800 - or the A7r.

Except I must have missed where you stated such.. until now..

Someone suggested a mirrorless MF body with a FF step down mode to introduce that format. I stated I'd rather just have the FF, it is smaller and cheaper, then you quote pricey MF bodies... which left me confused as to how that correlated to the convo.

In any case, yes, agreed. That is the market. But if they are introducing a FF crop mode, I'd still rather just have the FF OVF body over the MF EVF body. That MF body and lens setup would still cost more than the FF body.. and perhaps still a little bulkier...

I think if they were introducing a FF crop mode in the 645Z, it would be only as an extra, secondary feature. Like video I couldn't imagine why anyone would ever buy a 645Z just to use it exclusively in FF crop mode, when they could simply buy a D800 or A7r.

They only sensible reasons would have been to reuse FF lenses while upgrading those to MF lenses.
Since this is not possible for well known reasons (until they come with an MF MILC), it makes no more sense than a framing help and a bit of crop for birds (LOL). Why not, hey, but that's it.

Actually, the FF will be of the sort that will make users exclaim "WTH ...." But in a positive way.
Remember from the interviews, how Pentax expressed a care that the FF does not spoil the APS-C K-mount offerings, and yet that is does not start a whole new mount and lenses, complicate matters and enrage current customers?
Well, they have a brilliant solution, and many will wonder why on Earth everyone else didn't think of it before?
C'mon, spill the beans ...

I have a lot of empty space in my PM mailbox, ready to receive secret information (promise not to tell anyone!)
Unless this "brilliant solution" is a vague assumption made from gathering all the unfounded rumors and hype on the Internet Occam's Razor says it won't be anything as complex and never ever seen before, and lacking evidence to the contrary, I would go with that.

And that was exactly my point.. I'd rather have the D800 in that case.

The latest rumors are that the 4k is only a 'burst' mode.

Since so much else in the 645Z seems to be borrowed from the K-3, the 4K mode in the 645Z is likely identical to the way 4K is implemented in the K-3. From the K-3 manual:

I think this is the correct statement, judging from the source.

The countdown timer is coded to read your computer's clock by the way. It counts down to April 15, 10:00AM no matter what time zone you're in. You can verify this by altering your computer's clock and refreshing the page.

I'm assuming the real countdown is for April 15, 10:00AM Japan Standard Time, which is in a little under 6 hours.

Thank you for your explanation. The European countdown timer is different: it gives a result in days, hours, minutes and seconds, not in seconds only. It counts down to April 15, 3:00am CEST, which is in 5 1/2 hours.
