as much as I can't buy this new Z thing I'm excited to see what it can do.
What if the "Z" also means Pentax is collaborating with Zeiss?
No, it means that Pentax Z-1D / MZ-D is on it's way .

RI it seems loves mid-April announcements. The GR came out last year at (almost) exactly the same time.

Yeah, and even if we can't afford this, it clearly shows RI is pushing marketing further. Nice to see.

I am glad Ricoh Imaging continues to engage significant efforts into announcements of products that are irrelevant to the 98% of their user base. Could they not invest just a little of their time and money to finally develop a small prime lens for the K mount and crop sensors that is 35mm or 40mm equivalent? At least that one would sell in much larger quantities than all 645 lenses together.

The 645 is an act of inaudible confession and retribution for Pentax team. Their sense for tech achievements overshadows their common sense, but with 645 they aim to prove techpertise and try to compensate on many blatant failings and neglects in all other much more important areas. Like a father who buys children expensive toys to compensate on missed opportunities to spend more time with them.

A behaviour which is not unexpected: for a purely engineering driven company, detached from their worldwide user base in many important and practical matters.

Love their sense for tech achievements they want to prove with 645. But which is not unexpected: they are purely engineering driven company, detached from their worldwide user base in many important and practical matters.
I really like your positive attitude. It made my day!

If you look at the url:
Distinct Format. UNmistakable Brilliance. | RICOH IMAGING
It even says 645. They wouldn't say "645" for anything other than a 645. And the little teaser photo looks a lot like 645 cameras - big, monstrous.
Anyway, good to see that Ricoh is at least trying to build suspense. Its almost as if Pentax might actually find out about this novel concept called "advertising"

The French teaser says: "La nouvelle dimension d'un boîtier unique." = The new dimension of a unique body.

It's 645.

It's unique.

It has a new dimension.

It's a 645 Mirrorless!!!
