I, for one, am happy to see Ricoh working on a new generation of the 645D. And I'd like to eventually see a few product options in their lineup for that format. But I certainly sympathize with those that would rather have them put more effort into APS-C or FF in the near term.

I'm glad they're dropping crumbs after all the fiasco. The longer it takes them to get the whole review out the longer the K-3 remains popular on the site's news feed and forums.
Sometimes it means they have trouble testing them. Bad copies, firmware, etc.

Not exactly been a Pentax strong point (DA*55).

This "rather" is a problem. Pentax has an easy time on the medium format market, and should not lose it just because some people would rather have them make just one line of products. Not launching the 645z - when their competitors announced their cameras with the new sensor - means exactly that: losing an easy market. Besides, whatever Pentax makes - I noticed it on several sites/forums - it's always "they should rather make X".
But it's understandable to want more effort put into APS-C (and FF), while continuing with the medium format (and Q).

I'm totally meta now—not taking photos and not talking (seriously, anyway) about cameras. I take photos with my mind!

No, they just changed the URL - removing the 645:
Distinct Format. UNmistakable Brilliance. | RICOH IMAGING
It's a trick! See, this really is the new FF Z-1D or Z-2!

Again, Pentax is the only manufacturer that's poised to have a full lineup of ILC cameras, covering all major sizes - from the Qs to the 645s. And they aren't some n00bs to any of these ILC markets - they've had super-compacts, 35mm, and MFs going back long into the film days. They also have 2+ generations of everything in the digital format (except the 35mms have only had cropped sensors so far).

Thank you! The is the salient comment of the year so far ragarding Pentax.

I consider the DA* 55 a strong point. It was the deciding factor in my becoming a Pentax user

I currently own 11 Pentax lenses; the 21-40-70 Limiteds, the 16-50, 50-135, 55 DA*s, the 18-135 and 50/1.8 DAs, and 28/2 and 135/2.8 "A'

I would give up every single other lens before I let anyone touch my DA* 55/1.4.

They are indeed poised to...but will they take that next step and release an FF remains to be seen.

DA*55 is absolutely fantastic, upside down, inside out.
Especially when it comes out with rounded blades, new coating and a brand new ring type lens motor ...
