I have a hard time believing this price, especially since this camera is quite different from the previous one (different type of sensor, tilt LCD, different body, possibly video)
CMOS is now much cheaper to source than CCD before.

Over the last 3 years the CMOS production capacity has almost doubled worldwide, especially since Sony bought out the Toshiba fabs.

Pentax may also be aiming for some of the photojournalist all-in-one photo and video market, so they anticipate a broader base for sales.

Finally, they may be re-forming the market to sell more bodies at closer to cost and more lenses at higher margins.

I know of a USA network news division that tried to change remote 1-person crews (using local 'talent') from Sony HandyCam to 5D but the videographers revolted - they said they couldn't focus them. They're still looking for a solution.

makes we wonder/hope the original sticks around and drops in price like a rock. I would love one for around $3500-4000.
