CMOS is now much cheaper to source than CCD before.

Over the last 3 years the CMOS production capacity has almost doubled worldwide, especially since Sony bought out the Toshiba fabs.

Pentax may also be aiming for some of the photojournalist all-in-one photo and video market, so they anticipate a broader base for sales.

Finally, they may be re-forming the market to sell more bodies at closer to cost and more lenses at higher margins.

I know of a USA network news division that tried to change remote 1-person crews (using local 'talent') from Sony HandyCam to 5D but the videographers revolted - they said they couldn't focus them. They're still looking for a solution.

makes we wonder/hope the original sticks around and drops in price like a rock. I would love one for around $3500-4000.

Yep! It's the only digital camera I can see in my future so far. Love that ccd output
