It appears the Kooka website has been updated.
Yet the goofiness continues:

The Q-mount tubes are described as "Designed for Nikon 1 Mount lenses" !

PENTAX Q Series - KOOKA OPTRONICS CO.,LTD

Ohh, good to know... The Pentax Q is only a 'Series' not a Mount...

I just received my unit yesterday.

On the DA* 200 and the DA 50-300, the auto focus works fine; the reduced minimum focus distance is nice.. However, on my FA 50 mm macro, the auto focus just hunts and hunts. Then, under manual focus, when very close in, the camera (K5 or K3) badly overexposes - need to go to -3 on exp compensation. (Lens works fine (auto focus & exposure) without extension tube) .

Also, the unit is very finicky when trying to lock the unit on a lens and/or camera - really need to play with it to get it to lock properly.

Thanks for reporting. Is the autofocus on the DA*200 as fast as without it?

Yes, pretty much - not lightning fast with or without, but ok; I actually had it combined with the DA*200 + the new Pentax 1.4 TC.

By the way, that overexposure problem I reported with the FA 50 macro only appears when stopped down; e.g., f8 and higher; exposure ok when lens wide open.

SRB Griturn can quote prices in USD, and ship to North America.
Just click the US flag at the top right hand corner of their web pages.

What were you shooting with this rig? I have a DA*300 and HD 1.4x TC. I have a 25mm extension tube with auto exposure but no AF. I've never tried them all together and not sure what benefit there would be. A short tube doesn't have much effect on a long focal length lens?

I was just testing to see how much less the minimum focus distance would be - not a whole lot, but noticeable.

Back in in the old days when the minimum focusing distance of pentax long lenses was metres/yards away we used the rings so we could get closer to wildlife. It was always crappy having to walk backwards to get an animal in focus. I still can't believe how close my pemtax 60-250 gets to subjects. I suspect that's why a ring on new lenses is not as noticeable.

The converter shouldn't make any difference either way to the minimum focusing distance as far as I understand.

The converter maintains the same minimum focussing distance, but magnifies the image 1.4x.

I removed the glass elements from a Vivitar 2x TC, now I have a 25mm tube with auto exposure for $20. Since I use manual focus for macro shooting, it does the job, but a 3x would have been better because of the extra length. A 25mm tube with a 100mm 1:1 macro lens only gives me 1.2:1, less than a 1.4x convertor and considerably less than a Raynox 250 (approximately 3:1).

I intend to try the 25mm tube and 1.4x TC with the D FA 100mm macro to see how that combination works (1.7:1). I don't think I would benefit from AF tubes though, extreme macro is too tricky for auto-focus.
