I just love this place. They just gave us the APS-C camera of the year, the magnificent K3, performing to or exceeding the standards of the Nikon full-frame at a ridiculously low price, small size, great battery life, and still we bitch and whine...
There's a thread going that asks when we'll get the K3-II and what 'improvements' it will have.

IMHO it stands to reason the replacement Q7, GR, K-70 and the coming FF will share many of the K-3 technologies, as the 645z does. Might as well get them into as many iterations of bodies and mounts as they possibly can.

Maybe they'll flood the zone with new bodies and lenses at Photokina. Anyone have any Vietnam / Philippines / Thailand production sources?

Longshot but kind of wanting an MX-2 with a really decent EVF addon and a little skinner (MX-1) was a bit too much of a brick formfactor compared to it's competition imo.

Why would Q7 be replaced? What is wrong with that camera? I am not aware of any better small sensor available for it (if that could be the reason for an upgrade of a model, but which I doubt). It is brilliant for what it is.

Also the GR; it is a product of a 2-year update cycle.

Maybe not a replacement for the Q7 exactly but a re-jig of the product stack such that the Q10 disappears, the Q7 drops into it's vacant slot and a new camera sits above the Q7 - possibly.

The Q7 is an excellent little camera by all accounts but still a touch expensive for it's materials and abilities. A premium Q7 as it were:

- metal build (maybe sealed?)
- high res screen
- built in wifi (this I can see the point of given the more casual use of the Q v the K)

An improved sensor would also be good if one exists.

Yep, the Q7 is on the high side.
The Q10, though, for the little difference is IMO pretty well priced around 200€ with kit lens for the least expensive shops.

A q with a 1" sensor would be cool. Needs new lenses though. Why is it that people with only five posts are trolling us about FF? Go play with your dolls or something.

The Q10 is excellent value for money.

Godwins law of Pentax Forums, yes of course.

What about " Internet Rule 34" applied to Pentax Forums.

Rule 34 - Pentax Forums.. If a camera body exists... there is lens porn for it. No exceptions

My wishes for Photokina are:

K-3 II with upgraded autofocus
16mm f2 DA* Lens and 400mm f5.6 in K mount
Q5 with either integral or optional EVF (an OVF would be even better - it's been done before with the Pentax Auto 110)
that Q macro lens

I know that's all pie-in-the-sky, but I'd buy all of those!

Edit: Just figured that the Q registration distance wouldn't allow for a mirror.. Oh well, EVF, it is.

What aspect needs upgrading? IMHO, the K-3 AF is already very well-specified.

I'm not saying the AF of the K-3 is bad, it's not: it's just not up there with Nikon or Canon yet when it comes to tracking.

I'd say the K-3 probably has better AF hardware than it's APS-C peers:

but clearly the K-3 isn't going to compare too well with a dedicated sports shooters like the FF Nikon D4s or Canon 1Dx.

What probably needs improvement more than the hardware is the algorithms that sit behind the AF hardware in the K-3.

I absolutely adore my K-3, but I do get a lot higher percentage of keepers with my D800, whether it be birds in flight or my rather nippy granddaughter. And this is with SDM lenses: I wouldn't expect the screw drives to compete although, that said, they seem pretty snappy in AF-S mode. Ricoh has a stated aim of being number one in autofocus and, to be honest, it's the only thing I would wish to be improved with the K-3. Others may have different needs/desires, of course.
