It would be very disappointing to not get at least one new k-mount lens at Photokina, based on the road map and the length of time since the last k-mount lens announcement.

We can be optimistic and hope for several, such as the 16-85ish, and the 150-450ish and the 70-200ish on the road map. We might also reasonably expect new HD versions of the DA*16-50, DA*50-135 and DA*60-250. We might go further and look for a DA*12-28. We might, if optimism over takes reason, expect new versions of the FA 31, FA 43 and FA 77 with HD coatings and quick shift. There might be, if we allowed fancy to take form, be offerings in the lower cost line such as DA 24, or DA 85 or DA 135 to complement the existing DA 35 f/2.4 and DA 50 f/1.8. And, if our optimism took flight to regions rarely reached even in narcotic fueled dreams, expect a new line of '*' quality lenses with faster (not SDM) focusing motors, and HD coatings including both key zooms and a range of primes.

But if we get 1 or 2 good new lenses I suspect that will be more realistic and possible.

Two good new lenses would be great! But they have to be the ones that I want...

Honestly... if they do announce the 150-450ish (which I've been dreaming about) I'll be stuck with a very hard decision between the DA*300 and 1.4 teleconvertor and the new long telephoto. I suspect that the DA*300 with teleconvertor will give me the sharpest pictures over a zoom...but you never know?

That also depend of the price... A high quality zoom in this range is going to be very expensive !

The most logical would be to have some of the lenses on the road map out and a few update on others that they started last year (like HD + DC motor + WR).

That road road map is dated 2006 / 2007 so it is possible the 70-300 mentioned there was released as the 55-300. Certainly the 55-300 is not on it.

And it looks positively sparse. Perhaps those complaining in other threads that Pentax has few lenses should look at what was available in 2006. I'm not saying everything is rosey, but look at where we were and where we are. Quite a bit of progress.
Regarding the original DA 55-300mm lens.

The September 2006 roadmap showed a 70-300mm lens.
The March 2007 roadmap showed the 55-300mm lens, as did the October 2007 roadmap
On the January 2008 roadmap the lens still shows as future but for the first time with a picture. Same on the March 2008 roadmap.
The September 2008 roadmap was the first which shows the lens as available.

Utterly useless information but for who might be interested. And yes I still have all the roadmaps available from May 2005.

How about the new 150-450ish AND the 1.4x TC

I'm in the same situation, looking for 400mm plus with good coatings and auto focus. I recently purchased the DA*300 with the intent of getting the TC next as soon as funds permit. But the TC is now out of stock so still not 100% sure what I'm going to do.

Well to support TC is to be f/4, maybe f/4.5, meaning very high end like $3000-6000.

if it is a 120-400 f/4-5.6 no AF with the TC, no much optical quality to expect out of it when TC mounted neither.

I'am not sure this 120-400 would necessarily be far better than a 60-250 + TC (so 80-350 f/5.6).

...you can resell it for what you paid for it when you get your PTX HD 1.4 TC. It will bridge the gap acceptably. Used mine until the PTX came out. worked fine with the 300/ F4... Kept both afterward, put the Tammy in the 300 F2.8 kit...

I'm going to get my name on the waiting list at B&H for the TC so that hopefully I'll have it by Black Friday when I plan to get the DA*300....

Of course if Ricoh does announce the 150-450ish in September and its not a lot over $2,000 I may be financially irresponsible and buy..

Actually according to Ricoh it works with the DA 55-300 f/4-5.8 with a warning. So I am taking that to mean it will work @ 5.6 in good light. And based on what I've seen in the 300mm plus lens club thread I'm not going to immediately discount the image quality either. Especially since I am assuming the 150-450ish lens was designed to be used with the 1.4xtc making it a 250-600mm lens...............

But this is a rumor and wishes thread so facts are not important anyway, so I'm going with the 150-450 + TC.

Recycling/adapting old 85/1.8 or 85/2 as cheap DA would be welcome

I'd just like there to be a lens or two worth the money. Not this HD 20-40 stuff...

I don't see why it wouldn't work, I have no trouble with a cheap Vivitar Series 1 1.4x and the 55-300. Focusing might be slightly slower, but it works.

And as this is a wishes thread, the "150-450" is actually going to be a rebadged Tamron 150-600.
