You mentioned "worth the money" in connection with the DA 20-40.
A solid aspherical lens is one of the quality items you pay for in that lens.

One also pays for sharpness, and the HD 20-40 doesn't appear to offer enough of that for a $900 lens, according to most reports I've read.

Right, no sharpness, no cookies.

I would like to see the FA LTD lenses updated with HD coatings, DC motor drive, & weather sealing. I would also like to see an improved DA* 55mm with HD coatings, DC motor, and improved sharpness at wider apertures.

Dual purpose. Works on Pentax and Canon?
Or maybe it is the Leica version?
Oh, maybe it is DA-L version

But I don't get HD DA 55-250/4-5.6? Meaning 55-300 or is this a new lens? And the DA*60-250 f/4 is missing

Edit: Thibs beat me on the DA-L

A good copy is very sharp on center wide open and very sharp on border too at f/5.6. This lens is a landscape, trips and hiking lens where the idea is to have a very small lens that provide very high quality, sharpness, nice colors in a very small high quality and WR package. There simply no competitive offering.

If you prefer, it replace your DA21 + DA40 for arround the same price and with the ability to zoom. It is sure through that one should not use it for portraiture, but one would add the DA70, problem fixed.

Yes, "L" stands for DA-L(ight). For low budget I think the 400 € for the HD DA 55-300 WR is to expensive and the lack of silent motors is especialy for beginners a little bit disturbing. So a 55-250 DC make sense. Thats no replacement for a 60-250/4.

Mmm 50-200 II DC would be more likely IMO.
Also, DA-L 85/2, not /2.8; leaving /1.4 as expensive version.

But look at the price of the 85/1.8 in Canon or Nikon mount. 450 € is to much for a budget portrait lens. The Sony SAL 85/2.8 for 230 € is affordable.

I thought the DA 70 2.4 was Pentax's budget portrait Lens.
