K Mount Speed Booster?

Looks like Fotodiox might soon raise a few smiles around here (if I've read this right, that is):

That's got to be a typo. . .unless they adapt medium format glass to the K-mount. They probably mean the Q.

Not full-frame lenses adapted to the APS-C sensor? Or these things shorten the register distance, eh?

Yep, they do. I've got a K-mount/Nex Lens Turbo, and it's several millimeters thinner than a basic adapter tube.

The Fotodiox Pentax adapter is for mounting full-frame K lenses on a m4/3 camera, m4/3 -> APS-C. Anyone with a Pentax DSLR is already there.

I have an RJ Turbo which mounts my K lenses to my a6000, so APS-C -> FF. That's a better trick.

...and there was me wishfully thinking someone had finally found a use for all that empty space in my K-01's not-mirror box.

In principle you could make an adapter that sit inside the empty (mirror-free) space in the K-01, that does what the speed boosters does. But this ain't that.

Actually you couldn't since a focal reducer also reduces the register (flange distance) of the lens.

What if Pentax/Ricoh makes a body similar to K01 but with a shorter register distance and a built-in speed booster thingy? This way they don't have to increase sensor size but can market it as pseudo-full frame.

I wonder how the cost of something like this would compare to just sticking a FF sensor in there in the first place.

This would be great! It looks like there might be enough room to fit an adapter completely inside the K-01, at the proper register distance. But nobody will probably ever make anything for that cam ever again~

True. Oh well, just another day imagining a Pentax FF...

The DOF of a 67 field camera on a Pentax Q - that would be...interesting.
