It is the same thing as this one. Kodak Digital Cameras | AZ522
Not exactly. For example,
the Kodak has optical image stabilization (lens decentering),
while the Pentax has the familiar sensor-shift.

I don't believe that for one second.

And a review:

On sale in the UK, the Kodak equivalent for 149,99 pound:

And it's exactly that - the Argos catalogue, online sales, general stores and the like - that this camera is made for. It cannot be too expensive and maybe it will be offered straight off on a discounted "Save £££!" basis. FWIW, some friends have one of the Sony bridge cameras - an HX400 - and are delighted with it. Everything comes in a single package, It has a tilting LCD, Sweep panorama mode, can zoom in or out to allow a shot of almost anything, full HD video, and has various tricks which some find useful like like Motion Shot video - as well as GPS, wifi, NFC and an app to allow control from a smartphone. Having handled it, I'd say not bad at all. Why are DSLRs apparently unable to implement these features, in some cases at all let alone fully or well? In my friends' view the Sony's output even from a small sensor + the combo of features is very obviously better than a mobile phone's which, for them, is the key buying point. That's what they and perhaps lot of people want: all the best and latest stuff in a single package and it's got to be better than a mobile. Not everything about these cameras is crap at all though I'll admit that the Kodak/Pentax one doesn't look as if it will cover itself in glory. Tough competition here as everywhere else.

Doesn't seem like same camera, The Pentax appears to have an EVF while Kodak does not?

It is difficult to demand a high price with a name like "Kodak" nowadays... OTOH, you look at the name "Leica" on the Panasonic Lumix, with similar specs (eg. FZ200 with high zoom), it can draw a crowd even at a higher price, go figure.... it is the beginner's mentality (the higher the zoom, the better), IQ is not a priority.

The 522 is listed for $300 on amazon, so $399 makes a little more sense.

This needs a larger sensor, the one off MX-1/Q7 or a 1" sensor. Needs to do RAW. So much zoom isn't needed

Yeah, but there's certainly still interest in such cameras.
Adam is right. There is still a significant demand for products with ludicrous zoom range. That's a relatively easy market to enter, put your product on the shelve and it will sell. When people are used to the IQ (or lack thereof) of cell phones, even this kind of camera seems great.

MSRP is 349 from the website, so it gets closer.

Maybe Ricoh is just farming out these low priced cameras to the generic manufacture everyone else uses, and just spec'ing out the case shape.

Interesting article about JK imaging, seems the parent company makes just about every cheapo camera that is not Canonikony.

I notice that the name "Leica" was taken off the lens on the FZ70 (FZ200 has that).... and the difference in the price of the two models (aside from the features).
