Didn't Ricoh rename the Pentax point and shoots with the Ricoh name? Are they selling the Pentax name now?

Naming this camera a Pentax hurts the Pentax brand and is clearly another low blow.
I have to agree. Having an entry level camera is fine, but this seems to be a really low end camera.

The X-5 had specs that were at least mid-pack among bridge cameras, and was priced accordingly. Ironically, this makes me kind of wish I had bought one of those when it was on sale for around $150. My rationale for avoiding it was simply that I already had the X90.

There are 9640 posts on the 'why I won't buy a K-3' thread, and LaurenOE's gaffer tape thread. 645z has nothing on the back. Maybe Ricoh have listened

This rebadged generic brand camera should not have been released under the Pentax name.

Poor. Very poor show and bad for the brand. What WERE Ricoh thinking of?

I don't care what name is on it. I bought an X-5 for my young daughter when it went on sale for $130. It's nice for that amount. The XG1 will be nice at $150 as well. $399? Doubtful they will sell many at that price.

I have no interest in this camera. But some pretty decent results from the XG-1 can be found on this site:

And at least 9600 posts are completely irrelevant / nonsense on that thread... can't really add those to the argument.

Threads have been closed for a lot less off-topic posts...

I've always felt odd about a thread with such a negative title about Pentax's flagship DSLR being so popular on PF and wondered why it has been living on for such a long time.

Thank you.
Not that bad, as one might think reading only this thread...
Huh, this is x52 zoom and 1/2,33" sensor isn't it ?

They're soft and there is a lot of noise reduction/smoothing taking place to my eyes.. plus all of the sample photos are at ISO100 - they know it performs poorly at higher ISO with such a small sensor.

I see the trade off though and thus the reason for such a small sensor.. allows them to have a larger zoom effect.

I have thought the same thing. Seeing that negative title nearly everyday for a great camera, when the posts in the thread have nothing to do with the camera, irks me.

The Canon site has a lot of critical postings about Canon too.. so it isn't a Pentax specific issue.

That seems to be a trend of late, doesn't it? They introduce something at an inflated price, sell a few, discontinue it, then drop the price to clear out inventory, making room for the next poorly thought out, poorly implemented, or simply incomplete design idea. Awhile back someone theorized that Ricoh might be clearing out all the Pentax R&D products before going forward with their own ideas. Seems like it would be time already, though.
