I think it's now or never for Pentax this time around to be honest... it's just a feeling I have.

My comment re' Pentax/Ricoh trying to squeeze sales was idiotic and I apologize. They are maintaining a presence via this special edition though, which can only be good.

FF will be a single Titanium Edition run of 5000 units with the Golden Section focusing screen and a special leather strap. It will be offered in a presentation box complete with a Titanium colored grip and 540FGZ flash.

....... Pentax Webstore will get 3. ..Canada will get 500. Henry's will get 400 of them. EU will get 1195. Austrailia will get 5.....Rest of world will get 500..
As an Australian who bought a D810 I really don't care

I don't think it was idiotic... i think they do try to squeeze a few more sales out of the K3, before they announce the K3-II

Thanks.

I guess a special edition makes the standard model look appealing anyway so they could still get those extra sales.

I don't think that a K3 MkII is on the cards just yet, but I feel they will at least announce a FF this year. I realise that people have been saying this very thing for many years but eventually you'd expect it to be correct.

The photo made it appear that the 20-40mm lens came with the new color body for $1400. I was contemplating getting on this steal of a combo until I realized my error when going to add the item to cart lol

Too good to be true... a camera + grip for $400?

Pentax K-3 Prestige Edition Announced - Pentax News & Rumors

Pre-Order ($1399)
Is this "prestige" edition incl. or excl. mirrorflapping and other lockup issues?

The K-50 and the 20-40mm lens for $1400, that's what I paid.
But those extra eight megapickles and two raw bits per channel will cost you.

The specific flash you stated as bundled might be rather 'vintage' though if it isn't this year.. since it is already discontinued..

Oh, but its is much more than that. The K-3 is incomparable with K-50 and all previous models.
New metering alone is worth the price difference.

I am eagerly looking forward to see the new models built around the K-3. And that is why, I believe, Ricoh Imaging is not announcing a new model below the K-3, which uses a lot of K-3-tech. Not yet. I think to many people such a new model (or models?) would be more than sufficient.

If they can muster in the meantime a few more $$ by renewing the interest in the K-3, and sell the remaining K-50s, the better for them.

This gunmetal Prestige edition is just that: a reminder to buy the K-3 and its tech at a price still higher than it will be in October / November, when a new camera that has 90% of K-3 tech is introduced.

It certainly looks like a similar pattern to 2013 (as Asahi man previously suggested...see below).

A slow and steady trickle of smaller announcements (XG-1, K-3 PE,....) to keep Pentax in the spotlight, leading up to a major announcement towards year-end (Photokina or even after that).

What will the major announcement/s this year be? Who knows. A conservative estimate would be several new K-mount lenses (the suggested telezoom and 70-200, perhaps even refreshed FA Ltds). A more optimistic view would see a new camera as well (with FF being the most likely candidate...but definitely not a sure thing).

2014 will be very interesting, like the known end of 2013.
Look to the great K-3,Flashes,new Limited HD Line and Limited zoom.
And...this is only the beginning of a new Pentax Time

By photokina, the announcement of the k-3 will be 11 months old. if i recall correctly, there were 13 months between the k5ii and the k3. so it's possible, they might speed up their cycle to have a new model each year, 3 months before christmas.

only saying it's possible - i think though there's going to be a new model either below or above the k3 at photokina. 2 months is too short a time to sell those 2000 prestige-k3s

The K-5 IIs is a rehash of a 2010 model. Can't say it's exactly just 13 months of difference in technology between the two. But as much as the K-5 classic is a big difference in performance vs. the K-7 (which was an upgraded K20D, in effect), a successor to the K-3 might come later than expected. Unless a higher model comes up maybe. But you're right - 2000 units of the K3 PE to sell in two months is too short. There are brand new K-5 Classic SE units out there still unsold to this day.
