IIRC, new technology cameras were supposed to be Ricoh-branded; traditional cameras were supposed to be Pentax branded.

Leads me to imagine this technology might first appear in a GR-type pocketable, perhaps with interchangeable lenses. That might explain the size of the sensor relative to the mount opening.
I thought the split was ILC for Pentax and compacts for Ricoh?

Anyway, very interesting developement, imho. They're trying to exploit that SR system even more. First the AA filter simulation, and now this AF system.

From the PF 2013 interview with Pres. of Ricoh Imaging, IIRC. Maybe it was compacts and new technology.

Maybe not in every camera, but a mirrorless with that feature would be AMAZING!
Its been done. Contax had some SLRs where the whole film-part of the camera moved back and forth to focus (which is esentially the same as moving the sensor). Gave autofocus on manual lenses. Didn't sell good enough to save Contax though....

It was digital and the ill fated 645 system that finally sunk Contax...
