Does it say anywhere that the bump on the front right is actually a knob? Maybe it's a connector for a grip or something?

Crazy suggestion - Could it be a small touch pad control?
My bet is: it's a second shutter button. Check out the finish on the top-panel shutter button; it has the exact same black inlay as the button that appears on the front. Maybe an effort to address some of the criticisms about the Q's ergonomics?

I think it's just a second control wheel, nothing less and nothing more.

ooh wait, is Pentax going to have two lines of Q cameras now? Maybe this isn't a Q7 replacement, but an addition. Just like the Q lenses come in two types, the "high performance" and the "toy", maybe now there will also be two bodies. One a cheaper, plastic body; and the other a metal, more expensive body (S line). But I do wonder what features will separate the two. Cosmetics is not enough

Heres my guess...

The weird knob on the front has a relatively contemporary finish (as opposed to the retro finish on the rest of the camera), so I believe it is for a new technology... I think 1) it contains the wifi antenna, 2) is a quick press button to link/share photos with your phone

No SR emblem. Is that how they fit a 1" sensor in?

Maybe that second button on the front is a cover for a tiny screen used to compose selfies? Nah, I doubt it. How about an attachment port for some type of Rube Goldberg articulating EVF? Probably not. I'll go with a new grip attachment point.

the top down shot gives a better view of the new 'knob' - More Pentax Q-S1 photos show up ahead of its launch | Camyx (maybe the S1 name stands for a square sensor! I'm joking btw)

I still think it's a clip on attachment. Maybe the will come with a belt clip. The alternative is a water release button to spray your unsuspecting subjects.

I'm not sure SR does anything meaningful on any of my Q's. Maybe not having the mechanism opens internal space and eliminates a costly assembly.

I'm sure it's cheaper to leave out the SR, but it's been effective in my experience. I'd be kinda disappointed to see it left out.

I bet the 'black' area on the new knob is the IR remote receiver. It is in the same spot as on previous models.
Question is if it has any additional functions?
Looks quite different from the opposite quick dial in the top view, but if it had a turning function it should look more similar.

In Q-S1, the S is for Selfies.

The "circular thing in the front" is a cap that protects a mirror that assists in framing selfies (no swivel back LCD for the sake of thinness).

Interesting, the second knob doesn't look like a second dial any more from the top view since there's no texture to it for easier turning. The dark part is probably because IR is inside. I'm starting to think S means Simple, without SR.
