If there were the lenses to go with it.

With Nikon 1 series the S is the cheap camera. So maybe no SR and the smaller sensor.

Or no SR and using the space for a bigger sensor. No idea how much room the SR takes, but I guess the sensor could be a little larger, 1,5 mm two ways.

Apparently about as much as the 1:2.3 sensor

By the way have any one noticed that there is no Ricoh label one new Q ?
That's a subtle one; what is missing in Q-S?

Agreed, but will the Q-mount lenses cover any image circle larger than a 1/1.7" sensor without problems? It would certainly be nice if they did but I recall reading that the Q was designed for 1/1.7" with the first version getting 1/2.3" only because no 1/1.7" sensor at the time would do high-definition video.

With the space needed for SR, so there is a little extra room.

That's close to nil. No Minolta lens from the film era was designed for stabilized sensors and they nevertheless work perfectly on Sony Alpha 850, 900 and 99.

Who is willing to sacrifice SR for a slightly larger sensor on the Q system?
SR can be very helpful with telephoto, macro, and low light. On the other hand, a larger sensor can help with DR and noise performance, and it allows wider angles with existing focal lengths

@Biro nailed the problem earlier:

Even the good Q lenses distort badly at the edges,
and you lose resolution if you try to correct the distortion.

That's my recollection as well. Why there's this drumbeat for a larger sensor is beyond me. Q-mount is what it is and we shouldn't wish it becomes something it isn't. Compact is dead, but over time PhoneCam people might move up to a small ILC as my daughter has and Q owns that space. The sensors will get better and better, just as APSc has.

The pictures of the Q-S1 show the 01 and 02 lenses attached. I think that shows the sensor size is either 1/1.7" or 1/2.3". Those lenses won't cover anything bigger.

Ricoh could add an EVF or bigger battery or make the sensor 1", but any of these things would increase the size and weight, compromising the defining characteristic of the Q - it's really small! If you want something with a bigger sensor, there are 2 systems at 1", 3 (or more) MFT makers, 5 systems at APS-C and 1 at FF (not counting Leica M). No one camera maker can cover all possible types of system at all possible sizes, but between all makers, they choice is pretty amazing.

I think Ricoh could back themselves into an emerging niche with the Q if they just put a little work in. The Q is so small and light (even with lens), it's light enough to stay under the payload capability of the DJI Phantom series quadcopters. This *could* really find it's home as a RAW capable camera for use with quad/hexcopters for aerial work. That's my plan and why I picked up the original Q from the PF marketplace awhile back. If they were able to improve the sensor and possibly add weather sealing/resistance, this would be hard to beat for that line of work.

I think the major hindrance for the system is the lack of an evf option. Image quality will always be a trade off with the small size but an evf would launch them right into the hands of all the people screaming for a small camera with a viewfinder.
