My Nikon D4s with the 24-70mm f/2.8G weighs in at 2.250Kg - I use this set up hand held frequently and I'm no body builder: I'm naturally slender physically.

I have no issues with camera shake because the D4s has excellent performance in the mid 200-800 ISO range and the 645Z with its Cmos sensor looks like it has even better performance than the Sony A7s, I respect your advice and your photographic work Pål Jensen, but in this instance I can only say : deal with it. Good optics always have a compromise and in this instance Ricoh/Pentax made a weightier lens rather than sacrifice optical performance(I hope) the SMC 645 33 - 55mm isn't good enough for me on the 645D, i'm glad Ricoh/Pentax has taken the time to offer this alternative.

PS. I forgot to mention that this lens has a optical image stabilizer, which again erodes your " too heavy, not designed for hand holding argument" I know many people in the Nikon and Canon camps that would give their right arm for a constant aperture optically stabilized zoom lens in this focal range.

Pentax haven't solved the "wide angle issue" with this lens. When you release a cropped sensored camera you create problems at the wide end because your old lenses doesn't go wide enough. Pentax solution(?) is ultra heavy and probably ultra expensive. I would rather pay $6000 extra to get a FF (645) sensor and not having to buy heavy lenses. The FF 645 wide lenses weights less than 500g.
True true, but add IS, a motor and better optical performance and you probably double the weights of the zooms anyway.

Come on guys - world's first medium format wide angle zoom lens with build - in shake reduction. What really maters is optical quality and overall (silent and accurate) performance. I hope that HD Pentax-DA 645 28-45 mm f/4,5 ED AL SDM AW SR will provide that.

If a 4x5 Wista RF can be hand holded, the 645 is too. Easily.

A post on another forum says this one is next on the menu from Ricoh - an 80-160mm f4.5 for the 645 series. Usual caveats and apologies.
