Published by Digital Camera Info, here is the first picture of HD Pentax-DA 645 28-45mm f/4.5 ED AW SR.

It enjoys in-lens stabilisation ('Shake Reduction') and its image circle is limited to the 'small' sensor of Pentax 645D/Z (it doesn't cover the full 645 image circle).

Update (August 4th): Detailed specifications have been published by B&H Photo Video

Pentax HD PENTAX-DA645 28-45mm f/4.5 ED AW SR Lens B&H Photo

Overview

The HD PENTAX-DA645 28-45mm f/4.5 ED AW SR Lens from Pentax provides users of the 645D or 645Z with a weather-resistant, ultra wide-angle zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 22-35.5mm. This lens features the 645AF2 mount for electronic aperture control and autofocus with an internal DC motor. Also, it has a constant maximum aperture of f/4.5 throughout its zoom range and uses extra-low dispersion glass elements to limit the effects of chromatic aberrations and improve sharpness.

The dustproof and weather-resistant 28-45mm lens features a quick-shift focus system that allows users to quickly switch from auto to manual focus as well as shake reduction image stabilization good for up to approximately 3.5 stops. Further improving image quality is the use of HD and Aero Bright coatings that reduce flare and ghosting. A Super Protect coating on the front element is also utilized to ensure the surface is free of dust and marks.

This lens has nine rounded aperture blades that will provide smooth out-of-focus areas. Additionally, the lens has an 82mm front filter thread and comes with both a case and hood.

A Shame about the DA / reduced image circle

Considering the focal length and the inclusion of lens based IS it is hardly a surprise. It is certainly a good sign that Ricoh is intent on expanding the Pentax 645 system.

Fits the whole "hand-holdable digital medium-format" thingy perfectly.

Yeah, I know but I Still fear Pentax might repeat the cropped sensor on kmount with a cropped sensor on MF and struggle later when/if it needs to go full MF frame.

Still good news of course.

It is also a sign that they will stick to the cropped 645 sensor. Theres no way a niche system like the 645 system is going to support both cropped and FF (645) bodies and lenses...
This will, however, make the lenses cheaper; particularly lenses like the 28-45...

Anyone else noticed that they have switched position of the zoom and focusing rings? A good idea?

Perhaps the first ring (focusing ring on this lens) is easier to reach?

That looks awesome... a landscape guy's dream... except for the part where Pentax AF systems are optimized for ƒ2.8 and it's ƒ4.5, but then, AF for landscapes is a frill, in any case.

Too bad DA not D-FA.
For sure confirmation that FF 645 sensor will never appear with Ricoh-Pentax. :/

Such a procrastination not to exploit at full potential their DSLR mounts, is something unexplainable to me... They must have decided to stay at dwarf photography actor stage...

I noticed the lens looked odd - but I didn't fully realize why. Perhaps the use of the optical IS system didn't leave enough room for the focusing motor so they moved it and placed the focusing ring accordingly.

A continuous f/2.8 zoom lens in this focal range covering this format would be the size of a melon.

Well, price would probably double with a bigger sensor and lenses would get bigger and more expensive to optically cope with the competition. That would put them head to head with Hassy and Leica price-wise.

Like my old Sigma zoom, confused the heck out of me.

Probably, and why not doing so ?
Two product games like CaSoNikon with their 35mm DSLR mounts ?

There is a question whether or not there is a point of going larger sensorwise. Ten years from now there are probably 100mp sensor in this size. The cost and hassle of getting larger may not be worth it according to the law of diminishing returns.....
The drawback I see is that some of the older lenses may loose some of their appeal with the crop factor. I might have to replace my 33-55 with the new 28-45 in order to go wide enough if I buy a 645z....
