the 01 prime is destined to become the 8 element 50mm :P But perhaps slightly less useful :P

I'll hang onto mine for a moment yet.

The MX-1 is pretty tempting to me too! Just sold my original Q

---------- Post added 08-05-2014 at 01:17 AM ----------

Why are there no kits listed with the 01 lens? This seems like the mandatory must have lens for the Q. Great quality images and nice little prime. I guess many consumers are probably more interested in the zoom lenses though which if I ever got a Q again I would want both zooms too.
VERY underrated camera.
Get one while you still can!

t's a pity that nothing substantial was updated about the camera but I think it looks a bit better than the Q7.

What's interesting is that they changed the name to Q-S1, which seems to imply a splitting of the line.

I have a strange urge to buy these two products and adapt the lens onto the new Q.
Two Q's. hmm. I like the redesign, overall, sans the odd grip (which looks aesthetically pleasing but not sure in terms of practical use). But yeah the naming is weird... Q-S1? Style1?
everything changed is cosmetic but I'm not complaining about it (re: gunmetal - if I get one of these, IT WILL BE IN GUNMETAL! awesome color choice to have).

I hope this means there's a Q5 coming up (higher-specced, hopefully with some trickled-down tech from the Ricoh GR)

On the other hand, the new 645 lens proves commitment is pushing through regardless of the "full-frame" hype

Sorry, Ricoh site give specs:

Construction material(s): Reinforced polycarbonate plastic

Only the knobs (quick dial and 'grip')are aluminium.

PENTAX - QS-1 Black
Good to know. I was just going off of Adam's write up in News and Rumours. Hopefully it is well reinforced plastic.

Thoughts:
1. Would it have killed them to bump up the LCD screen resolution into the modern era? Is it that expensive an upgrade?

2. I can't imagine the grip dial turning nor controlling anything. A spinning grip would be a cruel joke.

3. I could see the grip circle working just fine as a grip. I imagine the middle finger wraps around it nicely.

4. Where the colors on the Q10 and Q7 looked either silly, fun, or toy-like, the colors and style of this new one looks refined and classy.

also, some exclusive accessories for the Q-S1

mostly cases, stylish combo indeed. Wonder if they designed a new strap to go along with it too?

Or a tilting-flippy LCD like the RX100 MkII.
PENTAX please get with the program!!

Q7: 102x58x34 mm
Q-S1: 105 x 58 x 34 mm
DSC-RX100: 101x58x35 mm

It is like American car models- bigger every year. Sigh. Original Q is smallest of all.
thanks

I don't think it would kill them cost wise, however higher resolution would pretty much mean higher battery drain. I am ok with them leaving it as it is, if that's the case.

but a flipping or tilting screen would be more welcome. That would entail more cost, though... I'm surprised the MX-1 has it, so does the 645Z, but not this.. while it will make the camera fatter, at least it's more usable for "fun angles"

In my opinion the new Q will sell very good. Yellow and blue versions are lovely! Very stylish and good looking hipster camera

I can't quite understand why the Q-S1 was necessary unless they also introduce a higher specified model alongside - given the fact that it basically offers no top-line advantages over the Q7. If Pentax wanted to introduce a higher spec Q then refreshing the Q7 body as well kind of makes sense to have a unified aesthetic and naming system for the new two tier set up. Otherwise it's just going to make people continue to criticise the line.

Could be I'd rather carry extra batteries (more extras than I already carry for my Q) if it meant easier focus confirmation. Focusing, even with peaking, is tough on that crap 400k screen.
