I do not own it the only way i have of knowing whether its fast enough are people on this forum.. and out of 59 reviews it scored 7.9 auto focus.. and alot of people said in their breakdown that the lens did not focus fast or accurately enough and alot of the photos they were taking were not even really fast moving subects.

Well, we have a discepancy, then between those opinions and the subject shown to you.

Just like those who say the FA31 is overrated, the FA77 difficult to use, the K-01 crap, the K-5 cannot focus, and so on.

I'm glad you can work out from public complaints which experiences are due to user error or not without questioning the poster - I can't. :-)

I am not looking for apc to full frame equivalent. I dont want the 50-135 2.8 I have used it and is it way to sluggish for sports. I know having a 70-200mm on a apc will make it 120-290mm ish which is great, less cropping. On the k3 It has enough megapixels to crop quite a bit but I dont want to crop half my image shooting soccer games or hockey. APC + 70-200mm is perfect.

Tamrons user arguements with how it performs and its iq. I have read many reviews on both the sigma and the tamron 70-200mm's, my friends who shoot both canon and nikon have had both zooms. The image quality on the tamron is not as sharp as the sigma in the shots that I have seen and there is horrible purple fringing. Is it really so much to ask from pentax to produce a fast high quality zoom? Im having fun with this forum because im 90% sure thats what the new lenses are going to be... a 70-200mm and a 100-400mm. hopefully a 2.8 and a variable.

The sdm on the 50-135 is so prone to failure I wouldnt consider buying the lens used or new.

If anyone wants to say tamron can shoot sports as well as the canon or nikon 70-200mm I would love to see a gopro video or some true action shots.

It doesnt feel good to disagree with people backing tamron or pentax users but I just dont think anything they have is even close to canons 70-200mm which i have used on the 5D mark II and 7D. Its a must have lens for sports, and anyone shooting portraits, music or wildlife has to agree.

There is a market for 70-200 F2.8, as I bought one - a Sigma. I wanted a non-screw drive F2.8 70-200 lens for indoor night time Waterpolo shoots. There was no substitute for the F2.8. And a 50-135 F2.8 just doesn't have the reach.
I can't be the only one who needed one.
At least with this lens, if Pentax ever do give us a FF camera, I am ready for it.

The basic design parameters of the DA 50-135 are brilliant, IMO. On a crop camera, it gives the same enlargement as a 70-200 on a FF camera. I bought mine in 2009 and its still working fine today, about 6 years later, Used it in several rain storms and taken it on 3 snow shoeing trips. I use it frequently, but once when i hadn't used it for a few months, it took awhile to "warm" up. Optics are great and i've sold several pictures from it. If it broke, i'd get it repaired - no doubt. I looked up the weights on 70-200's and they are:

50-135 f2.8 1.5lbs
Tamron 70-200 f2.8 2.5lbs
Canon 70-200 f2.8 3.5 lbs

I use my 50-135 in a indoor playhouse and some outdoor plays, its perfect for that range for close - up shots and also for some portraits. My friend had just bought a 70-200 for his Canon, and he eventually stopped shooting it for one play while i continued with the 50-135, he missed the 50-70 range.

I know there is a difference in equivalencies but my point is that the 50-135 is a very useful range, esp. in this day of large MP. Its also a lot easier carrying it around than a large 70-200. My understanding was that the mechanical issue with the SDM was fixed sometime in 2012. According to one rental company, they repair 30% of all 70-200, can't find the statistics right away. I'd like to see a re-issue of the 50-135 with a faster motor. But the optics are grand - corner to corner sharpness. And i thought Pentax had said something to that effect.

Different horses for courses - be sure you've thought about it before buying. Wildlife and sports is one thing, Around town and indoors is something else.

But then you will not have the 'reach' any more.............. You then need to buy the 100-300

Until the sea nymphs decided to steal my DA* 50-135's life its SDM never failed me. Its optical excellence always shines when I use it. It was my workhorse lens.

I've had the pleasure of using a Tamron 70-200 f2.8 and it is NOT slow, or at least maybe because I anticipate in time. It's way better than Canikony comparison-makers think it is, too.

Let's not be too keyboard-expert and do try things out when we get the chance before we make an opinion about it. I've been there and I wish I could reprimand my past self for being so negative on things I've yet to prove myself...

About the Tammy, would it be able (subjective I know) to replace a 50-135 if one wanted to go FF.
Or would the rendering suffer much compared to the DA* ?

I have both, Thibs, and the rendering of the 50-135 is terrific - something Pentax users can be proud of - but the Tammy is very good, too.

I love my Tammy 70-200. It is a fine lens, and for what it is and does it is a great price point, even new. The DA*55 and the Tamron 70-200 are my favorite two lenses out of the hundreds I have tried. Although you guys make me want the 50-135!

If Pentax do release a 70-200 f2.8, and it has a DC motor, WR, etc etc, no one should expect it to be any cheaper than the Nikon VR2 70-200 2.8 or Canon L IS II 70-200 2.8. One can only hope though that it wont cost as much Sony's A mount 70-200 2.8...

Like Nikon, Canon and Sony have done, to manage the price (and size) of such a zoom, Pentax could also simply release a 70-200 f4. The Nikon and Canon 70-200 f4's are well regarded by users and all the test sites (eg DxOMark loves the Nikon 70-200 f4), so there is no shame in going down that path if Pentax decides to simply do a f4.

And on the subject of of 70-200 f2.8's AF speed, for my 2c worth, in my experience Sigma HSM is just as fast as Nikon's SWM on such lenses when shooting dynamic sports. So Sigma's AF speed is pretty good, particularly when driven by a camera like the K-3, and a well-configured AF setup.

A photoclub friend showed up last night with an 8x12 print of a factory taken by the Tamron 150-600 on his A7R. Beautiful clean picture taken at 600mm. lens is a 5-6.3 f stop over its range. Doesn't come in e-mount so he must have used the A mount adapter.

Weighs a bit over 5 lbs.

Pentax ought to just license it for its customers and it would forever end the concern over going long. The Nikon and Canon and Sony versions are under $1100. Its a FF lens. And far cheaper than the DA560. Quite an amazing accomplishment by Tamron.

What aperture was he using? I could get nice shots out of the Sigma 150-500 at f11. I can get better shots out of the Sigma 500 4.5 at f4.5.
