These cameras could have more potential if you were able to lick the color portion of the camera and taste the flavor in its name. Now that would be a sweet camera!

They've tested this. Turns out the KS-1 is a choking hazard. Plus, resale value for previously licked cameras is almost zero.

'Pentax - bad' is the default review. They have to win by more than the margin of prejudice.

I thought the K-5 got great reviews. 35mm Limited was called the best lens ever by some reviewer. Etc, etc, etc. Photozone is pretty unprejudiced in my view. Etc.

IIRC, every Pentax DSLR has been praised since the K20d.

Mike Johnston, formerly of Photo.net and currently The Online Photographer (and a magazine scribe back in the day) referred to the DA35 Ltd as the best.

I do think there may be some subtle prejudice against Pentax... sometimes reviews are *very* late, Pentax strengths like build quality and better OVF are often mentioned only briefly, almost negligibly - as if a better OVF, your window to the world, is somehow less important that 5 or 6 fps.

And there does seem to be a focus on the negative aspects of the Pentax lens system, because it doesn't directly equate to Canikon. Oh, sure, the criticism can be factual: "Pentax doesn't have an 85/1.2 like Canon!" but you never read "Too bad Nikon doesn't have a beautifully tiny 15/4 like Pentax!"

So, yeah, I think that Pentax has to win by Monochrome's "margin of prejudice"... the prejudice is just not always overt.

Warning Label: The K-S1 is only for licking, not swallowing.

For Sale: Lightly used and licked K-S1, some flavor remains on the body, thought not as sweet as it was originally. Make an offer.

If only he tested more bodies and more lenses..... but then again, how much can one guy do?

Apart from blowing the review of the 18-135, he's been really good. And that is a function of applying a standard that really didn't recognize the strengths of the lens. If he were to change his standard it would negatively affect his ratings of primes..., so what's a guy to do? I sure wish he'd do some K-3 testing though. although I have no idea how he pays himself to do what he does. However he does it, I'm guessing he doesn't get much money from Pentax users.

But then someone would use the silica gel as sprinkles on their K-s1 ..and the R.Pentax lawsuits begin
Would be perversely fun to read the lawsuit though.

Don't laugh too loud. Vincent van Gogh ate Cadmium Yellow because he wanted to get the colour inside him.

That reminds me of a story I heard a few years back from some Nat Geo photographers while I was working as a researcher on one of their projects. They were talking about one of the big time NG photogs from the 70's/80's (can't remember who off the top of my head), and how they were doing a shoot that had them camping on the summit of Mt. Washington in a blizzard. Apparently said photographer prepared and completely ate a bowl of soup that he had "seasoned" with what he thought was a spice packet but which was in actuality the silica gel pouch from his gear. Long story short, he had the pleasure of spending the night trudging out into the Blizzard every few minutes in order to relieve the digestive effects of his dinner...

Well caught. In the US video, K-S1 was all about frolicking pool-side teens. In Japan it seems a more mixed audience, in the tradition of the K-x and the other colour-cameras that have been released.

But to be fair, I haven't seen any Japanese or European K-S1 marketing videos yet.
