I think it's sadder yet - as I view the K-5, K-30, K-50, K-5II, and K-5IIs as different flavors of the same camera.

So since October 2010 they've intro'd one 'normal' DSLR, in my view*. But the camera industry in general hasn't made much strides since 2012 so it's not as bad as it could be. I'm still hopeful** that Pentax will have some 'wow' for us at Photokina.

*That everyone will disagree with.
**Notice that I didn't say 'optimistic'.

It should be 399 euro with single kitlens.
I was almost sold, then I realised you hadn't said kittens.

Unless there's a K-S1 (Starter? Simplified?) and something like a K-E1 (Enthusiast)? Then the K-3 would be replaced by a K-P1 (Advanced?)

Or would that be too complex? Maybe for some, but probably not for the company that gave us the *istDL
I think you might be onto something. K-S1, entry, K-E1 enthusiast, but I think K-A1 would be better than K-P1. A for Advanced of course.

The green and pink bodies from a previous illustration are missing in this colour set.

Yes, they seem to be listening.
And maybe they stepped on the break with this leak to stop the modularity discussion (pleading guilty myself here) they provoked with some of their design decisions?
at this very moment there are about 1200 "guests" viewing the forum... who could they all be?! :-P Ricoh Customer analysis team?

P.s. I think the snafu with the announcement date change has garnered more interest and talk about the K-S1 than if it had been a "surprise" announcement. Just .02!

P.s.s Dpreview Pentax K-S1 "hands on!!!!!" http://www.dpreview.com/articles/2902129846/hands-on-with-the-pentax-k-s1

P.s.s.s. "The K-S1 will be priced $749 / £549 body only, $799 / £599 with an 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 lens, and £679 with that lens as well as a 50-200mm F4-5.6." DPReview. Also ISO limit of 102K (extended I am guessing)

749US$ !!!. Not cheap at all. Way above anyone expectation. But who knows, maybe is a mistake, like the 102,800 ISO from the same text..

The higher MSRP of the K-S1 can be explained by a new chassis that's completely different than the K-50/K-500. It's the result of R&D and that's not free.

It will no doubt drop, after it actually hits the stores. And as Christmas approaches.

If a person shows up to a party with this camera, they would be the life of the party. Just imagine the 20-30 year olds with camera phones, how attractive would a Nikon D3300 look versus the Pentax K-S1? what would grab more attention? What would stir up more conversation? What better way to get the name out to the general public?! Many people don't even know that Pentax still exists! I've ran into a couple people in fact in 2010 that asked me if Pentax was still around and that their parents had a Pentax camera.

P.s. If I showed the K-S1 to my wife and the K-3 and asked her to chose one to use for everyday usage, she would go with the K-S1. She had a Nikon D3100 and she rarely touched it. She always felt it was "too serious" for the photography that she wanted to do, such as taking a snap shot of our puppies sleeping in interesting positions. She won't shoot in raw and post processing means uploading it onto social media sites... I ended up getting her a Sony DSC-HX5 and she uses it daily. It's more approachable to her.
