Why do we call the 18-55 "the old zoom"? If I look closely then the front section is different. There's no way to attach, click and turn a hood on it.

The old one:

This must be the new Ricoh naming on DSLR.

K-S1
K-M1 - K50 replacement
K-L1 - K3 replacement
K-XL1 - FF

I like the design, and I'm pretty sure that will be a success in Asia, and to the young generation. I'm not so sure about the ergonomics, but, anyway, not everybody has big hands. And this can be an indication for the target.

The really good thing is that with almost a month until Photokina, we have a new cameras on the way. And is still a lot of time for more news ( maybe even a big one)

The more I look at it, the more I like it. Instead of going for Q and the associated cost of lenses, one might go for this and a pancake. Lose some on compactness, gain some on IQ.

From measuring the mount in the photos I conclude that the size of the K-S1 should be about 12.5 cm x 9.7 cm x 6.0 cm which would be exactly the size of a Canon Rebel XS (1000D) and a tiny bit bigger than the K-x.

Are they restarting their numbering scheme? Will the K-60 become K-A1? The K-3 mk 2 K-P1 perhaps? And then of course K-F1 :-)

The size of the grip seems to be similar in size to the grip on K-x. But K-S1 seems to have more space between grip and lens mount, so K-S1 might a bit wider than K-x.

If they'd given it seventies retro styling and called it something like the ME Super-D, I bet everyone would be hailing it as a work of genius.

I like this design, looks like a mixture of BMD Pocket cinema camera, Olympus OM-D/Sony A-7 and pentax k-01 in one. Hopefully features will be awesome too. If they go with similar design for their new high end models, it is going to be very interesting an intriguing year. I kind of like original and distinct design of pentax, they are unique and always interesting.

Smallest Pentax DSLR ever!

From the front, the k-s1 is slightly slimmer than the K-x.

From the top, the mirror box is the same but the hand grip is smaller.

This will be the smallest DSLR Pentax has ever produced, but unless it is substantially lighter, it may also be their least ergonomics DSLR (judging from the handgrip.)
