A non-scary looking DSLR is a great idea.
Rumor (rumour?) is that Ricoh partnered with Fisher Price on the interface design.

Yes, I understand this (although it's never happened to me in over 20k snaps with my yellow K-01), but I never said that cameras shouldn't be available in black. Many people think "colorful camera" = "non-serious" or "non-pro", and I find that "non-sensical".
Photographers aren't interested in colors.

Were we talking about the K-01?

the flash don't add that much to the size of the bump, most of it is the prism and other parts that are related to the prism (light meter, AF point display...) and hotshoe.
The volume of the bump would be smaller without flash, but the flash don't take much more space than for instance the AF-point display.
Having taken a few cameras apart, I can assure you that the prism itself is pretty small. Most of that space is support for the flash. For comparison, here is the Pentax 50th anniversary digital body (K10D sans flash).

But why they are so concerned about the look of the entry level camera and its LED lights is beyond me.
Because it reflects badly on the corporate intelligence driving the brand.

I read that Olympus had hired Daedalus to design their menu system.

Spend too much time in there and something unpleasant might find you...

Yep. This is why the K-01 was so disliked - "derp who would take me seriously as a photographer if I have a small yellow camera?"
I actually liked (and still like) the appearance of the K-01. Where it failed (IMHO) is in terms of usability (no real viewfinder) for its size and form factor. I suppose I could always pick one up and use an auxiliary finder similar to the one I have for my rangefinder cameras. Something like this, perhaps?

That actually sort of rocks.

I've never understood this mentality. Many power tools are brightly colored - red, yellow, turquoise, etc. Why not cameras?
Absolutely! My cordless drill is clad with neon green rubber and has LEDs on the front.

Where can I get the ID on that pencil sharpener lens array?

Pretty retro cool.

I don't see a major difference in size compared to the standard K10D.
Looking at this picture I even looks like the prism bump on the anniversary model is higher than K10D with built in flash.

BTW is the anniversary model a fully working camera, or is it only a mockup?

The K-01 does have TAv mode when in M-mode and the iso set to auto.
Yeah, unfortunately TAv mode on the K-01 doesn't allow for exposure compensation.

It will probably be the same on K-S1 too, as the exp comp button is used to switch between shutter speed and aperture.

- ISO100-51200
- 1,920 x 1,080 Video, 30fps, stereo
- Built-in camera shake correction
- D-LI109 battery
- 120mm x 92.5mm x 69.5mm
