I'm pretty sure it could help in getting more visibility to Pentax as not everybody has a need of a K3 and we need different cameras that cover different needs.
Exactly. And that is the philosophy Pentax has been used to guide itself in not delivering an FF. Because they wanted to hypnotise their audience with a repetitive suggestion they never needed an FF.

Doesn't look too bad in the video - better than the pics anyway.

Interesting that they (Pentax) specifically addressed some of the points that have been squabbled over here, ie purpose of the front LEDs and that yes they are switchable...

Yes, they seem to be listening.
And maybe they stepped on the break with this leak to stop the modularity discussion (pleading guilty myself here) they provoked with some of their design decisions?

But how good is it to hold? The grip design is certainly a major deviation from all other Pentax DSLRs.

It sure does. I wonder if it is smaller than a K-x? The prism is bulkier (but worth its bulk!), but I think the rest of the camera is smaller, isn't it?

It's 120mm x 92.5mm x 69.5mm vs. 122.5mm x 91.5mm x 67.5mm for the K-x.

I've watched that video 4 times, and for me is clear that this camera is designed for young users and women. A simple lay-out on the screen, small format, small grip, almost everything can be done with one hand. I specially like the mode dial, and the small elevated part above it, which permit a secure grip, without touching the controls. In a sentence, a camera designed to attract new users. And users which are not accustomed with DSLR. I'm pretty sure this camera will be a success for Pentax.

Dimensions were posted earlier in the thread.. and yes, I believe it was in fact just slightly smaller than the K-x. The handling of this camera intrigues me with the unusual grip. Would like to hold one..

If this is the entry level then wow the mid tier should be very nice. At the least no AA filter and the K-3 simulated filter with at least the 20MP sensor and FLU card support just like this K-S1.

Ah, I'm sure they did. The thread is moving fast

Very slightly larger in boxed volume then. But no weight has been posted yet - or did I miss that, too?

Too me it looks neither comfortable nor secure, only "stylish" which is how it is intended, I suppose.

Where is the official announcement?
On Thursday, August 28th. For reasons unknown to me, it has been postponed from Tuesday the 26th, hence the confusion and the 'leaks'.

It will be released on Friday, September 19th.
