Eh, I can't really imagine what sort of creativity we would get out of an entry level camera. It's as small as an SL1 (so smaller than the k-500/k-50), it's got a bigger sensor + the sensor tech from the k-3, and it's flashy.

I'd want the innovative stuff to be on the mid and top range cameras (sorta like where the k-3 got the sensor tech as well as the much improved AF).

I'm curious as to the shutter sound.

Also curious about lens adjustment.

I doubt it, but if it has the k-3 or k-5 shutter sound, it'll be amazing.

I think the price point is really what will set this camera apart. If its 500+ no one is going to buy it. If its under 400 and sold everywhere, 20 mega pixels no AA, full DSLR speed and focus, I think its a very compelling package. The prob is that Pentax always has had a compelling package, whether or not people buy in places other than japan it is a different story. I think the K-S1 will do well in Japan, but elsewhere I am not as sure. I definitely am more interested now that I saw it in the video (The video been removed though...that was one quick plug of that leak).

It's going to sound just like the shutter on the P3.

Credit to Pentax for trying so many different ways to crack the entry-level market--colored bodies, angular shapes (K-30), non-camera designers (K-01), size (Q), and now the K-S1. The only other company that's been as experimental has been Sony.

If they can get their retail channel sorted out, and by all indications they are working on it, they just might get somewhere.

Do you think it will be under $400? I doubt it will be that cheap.

I, too, doubt under $400.

K-S1 should be bundled with the DA 35/2.4.

I think the CCC will have it's first patients as early as tomorrow.

Pfft. Make it sound like a 6x7 if it's not going to be quiet at all!

Regardless of cost to produce, they can't go too low with the price otherwise they start reducing the value of the K-3.

I actually don't want Pentax to compete based on price; it devalues the brand as a whole.

That does not mean I want Pentax to not be price-competitive... I simply do not want their focus to be having the lowest price. If, on balance, the K-S1 offers the same features and shooting experience as a $599 camera, don't sell it at $499 just to undercut the "competition".

I remember I bought my k-x kit for 800+ euros right after its launch back in 2009...
I would be surprised if this Ks1, if replacing K50, has a price tag below 500usd. Or maybe it is a K500 upgrade?
