But an entry level with a selectable AA filter? That's what has me wondering...
Apparently, no weather sealing and one control dial.

I would say this is a K-500 replacement.

It is a bit sad that since the K30 (launched in 2012-07) there has not been a notable upgrade to the mid-level camera yet.

That's IF they do not plan to launch a second camera soon (unlikely imo)
That's IF you consider the 16MP sensor K-30/K-50 good enough for you... if not then the K-S1 could be of value for you...

I think the K-50 is still selling, while the K-500 wasn't, so it was discontinued early and Ricoh saw they needed something more user-friendly for the entry level (that's my guess anyway).

And I agree that this is probably the K-500 replacement, 5.4fps is entry level...

But with two new cameras with a "s1" designation, it just seems like there will be higher end cameras using the numbering system.

Unless there's a K-S1 (Starter? Simplified?) and something like a K-E1 (Enthusiast)? Then the K-3 would be replaced by a K-P1 (Advanced?)

Or would that be too complex? Maybe for some, but probably not for the company that gave us the *istDL

After watching the official video from Ricoh on you tube about the Pentax K-S1 narrated by John Carlson here are some official stats of the camera. It has a 20.12 Megapixels CMOS sensor. It has no AA filter and has the AA filter simulator like the K-3. The K-s1 has a glass penta prism with 100% field of view. The control dial has led lighting for low light use. The shutter release is green when taking still pictures and is red when shooting video. The led lights in the front are for face detection and for a self timer. The led lights can be turned off. The highest iso for the K-S1 is 51200.

The K-5 IIs is the mid-level camera, a step up from the K-30/50.

The research is already paid for. Might as well use it.
Hope that means f/2.8 AF sensor(s) too, though the IX+ SAFOX might not be up for that.
Really this camera meets my needs & would allow me to dump the 1J1 and other small cams that only exist because I like 'em small some times. I fear one of these (white?) is in my near future, and maybe two after my wife sees it (and the color palette)?

Flu card compatibility is nice. But does this mean it has two SD card slots?
And Im surprised it has AA simulation. I thought that would be only for higher end models. Good to see even this model has no AA filter and such advanced features

whether it does or doesn't have a second card slot has nothing to do with flu card compatibility

Ah. I just thought if the flu card takes a card slot, it is much more convenient to have one extra slot for a regular SD card

And that is why you would pay more for a K-3.

That's the first time I've ever seen the words "K-01" and "tiny" used in the same sentence LOL!
