WOW.

Well heck it might be the best camera since ever. But it seems like, at that price, it's crowding the K-3.
Officially recommended price with the 18-55 kit lens is 699 Euros in Germany.

Pentax still need something to compete with the Canon 1100/1200d in terms of price.

I believe it will soon get to 500 EUR level. But anyway I don't think it's a problem the pricing is too close to K5II or whatever (I bought mine with kit lens for less than 699) because the audience is different. I might consider it now that I have my main camera up to date, but before that, I could look at K5/K3/K5II and such, and dismiss this one regardless of the price.
Similarly someone might look at this (hey, shiny leds!) and ignore the fact a much more competent (if older) camera is a few bucks more.
So we should wait and see what the market says. Worst case we'll be able to get a cheap second body in a couple of months.

Hmm. I think this camera would be easier to sell at that price if it came with a more compact and modern-looking kit lens with silent focus.

I wonder if a K-50 successor will arrive too - with basically the same innards, but with traditional controls and WR?

Oh, and in the last 15 seconds they show a camera.
That is generic royalty free stock video that could sell anything between needle and space shuttle with just a few additional seconds made by Ricoh marketing, photoshopped a little bit to be more realistic. Until 0:41 it is totaly generic, camera on 0:41 is generic (blurred). K-S1 from 0:42 is clear but the rest of the video is blurred. That was the cut. Image on a display of K-S1 was photoshopped from unused video frames. Total cost is not more than few hundred bucks including royalty-free licence, recording couple of seconds, editing and other postproduction activities.

It's exactly 50 years ago when the Spotmatic was first introduced (1964). They should do something with that.

Great, but Pentax lenses are still missing (35mm F2.4) or displayed in the wrong size

btw.: an OMD M10 ist 300gr. lighter... I am more attracted by the M43 system by now (IBIS, great small and light lenses)

High resolution sample shots taken with the K-S1 are now on the Ricoh UK site. Couldn't find them on the US site.

PENTAX K-S1 - RICOH IMAGING UK LTD.

I think I might like this camera. Colours look rich without being over-saturated, and it looks sharp enough for any print size I'll ever make.

of course, it doesn't have a mirror mechanism and a pentaprism. 300gm difference is small considering all the added stuff a traditional DSLR like the K-S1 has.

That might be true, but with a set of decent lenses the difference in weight increases more than the difference in IQ. Moreover, I really start to like the EVF I use with the E-PL3....

If Pentax could come up with a 400gr WR Body, I could use it perfectly with my 18-135, 21, 35 and 50. Would even add a DA15 again....

New Kitlens is priority #1

I think this is the big thing for now. All other goodies we seen rescent and then a K-mount lens.

But this K-S1 needs a new kitlens that is smaller and folds back when not in use!

k-30, k01, k50 and now k-s1. All in very different styling - sporty, designer chic, old school slr and now kind of ... retro futuristic with LEDS and all. Top priority is to be as small as possible to compete with the Fujis, Olympus, Sonys and what else is out there. But the constant changes speaks to the fact that they struggle finding the right formula and in my very humble opinion it is a mission impossible on the design front. And at the same time they have to stuff the cams with expensive tech, large viewfinder etc. making it rather expensive. I don't expect to see this in the hands of people here in Europe.

645Z is not K-mount camera and it's long-waited upgrade of 645D.

Ricoh is BIG company.

K-S1 is hard to compete with A6000 (and e.t.c.) and low-end models of another brands.
Too expensive.

No very important things for new users:
1. Wi-Fi
2. Touch screen
3. Tilted LCD
4. Weather sealing
5. New DC motor kit.

Instead of it - useless AA simulator.

This camera is not stronger than K-50 or old K-5IIs, but more expensive.

I would agree with #1 and #3 as they are very useful for today's always-online population, and I think the AA simulator is just there for kicks but I doubt the target users have any idea what it is anyway.
