Well, we don't need to see heads roll.
Their public apology is nice and professional.

Hopefully it means they will maintain a higher standard in future with their marketing imagery. Maybe even hire some photographers that use Pentax instead of relying on stock.

The poor model probably got her hands chopped off. After all, it was her fault (isn't that the way large organisations work?)

That's a good example of a corporate apology.

Well, at least she appeared to be happy with her new camera.

The previous video advertisement for the K-S1, I thought was really excellent. This email on the other hand was just lame. So now we have book-ended the two extremes. I guess we just need to be thankful that they are even trying to do some marketing - any marketing at all.

I do wish however, that they would pull a 645Z off the production line and use it for shooting their advertising. Even use the tag line - "Shot with a Pentax 645Z", would get folks talking about it. Then again a K3 should be more than enough for the emailer. If you are going to do something, think all the angles through first and arrange things to get the maximum mileage that you can possibly get.

Since he was from Ricoh Imaging Americas Corporation, there is no shortage of attractive women here - out and about. No excuse for using stock imagery. Go find an attractive model - heck use one from the video. This would tie the video and the print/email advertising together. Thinking this through does not cost any more than getting your hand caught in the cookie jar. Pentax does not need any more stupidity.

Gee - I'm just an engineer and here I am talking about marketing, advertising and the like.....

This is a dreadful response. Looks so weak and reactive. They should have just made a better advert and sent it out.

Really?

"Went out with the wrong image"

I almost spat my coffee out when I read that.

Well, i agree it must be corrected with the "good" shot, if that story has still any credibility...

Exactly.

The phrase "...the wrong image..." implies there is a correct image.

Why did they not just send out a repeat advert -- including the correct image -- with a small footnote apologising for having sent out an incorrect version first?

Actually, I didn't notice the original email much as I'm not in the market for a K-S1 and don't load email images per default, but I certainly noticed the second email. It reads as if they have been caught out, to be honest.

Appropriate apology IMO.
I'm not quite sure Pentax would have made such an apology before Ricoh ownership.

Fine, move on.
