Thank you for that - I hadn't read it before.

On a positive note - Pentax has done quite well this year with recent 645z and K3. Its not that i need a MF, but it tickles me that Pentax can compete in that arena. Yea for Ricoh/Pentax!

I think we pretty much have everything we know going into Photokina.
Having come off the 645z, I don't think the top tier dSLR folks are ready to roll out anything.

Maybe a compact with a Ricoh name on it. Aside from the GR and Theta, we don't have a new Ricoh product and I can't wait to see what the Ricoh brain trust comes up with.

The K30 -> K50 barely counted as new to me.
The K5 Mark III (aka K3) was enough to be seen as "new".
The re-branding of the Optio WG-3 to Ricoh?
Nope.

I was deliberating whether or not to install the K-50 firmware on my K-30 back when I owned one.. the only technical difference I think between the two was the extended ISO value. One could trick the K-30 into reading the K-50 firmwares by renaming the K-50 firmware to that of the K-30 (tested). However (and BIG however) I never got the nerve to let it flash/run and do the actual update to see what would happen.

One day when K-30's are sub 200 bucks, I'd like to try... just to get that curiosity off of my mind.

Woo-hoo 200th !!

I don't think there will be any big supries, I only ticked 3 items. i hope I'm wrong though.

KS-1 announced today to generate pre-Photokina interest.

Q09 macro lens

K-mount lens but which one? the wide DA zoom, wide - normal DA zoom or DA telezoom (not the DA* Telezoom )

I did not count the Q-S1 (Q7 rebadge) announced a while ago
I did not count the DA 645 28-45 lens also announced a while ago.

They'll present the K-s1, 645Z and the new Q. No further big surprise just the recent releases. And realisticly speaking, that still is all very big for such a small player.

...longing for a long zoom...

Even though I just voted in favour of a K-Mount lens, my „Top-Choice“- or "top wish" - for the long DA* Tele zoom probably is still on the bottom of the rumours list.
Something like a 100 – 400 mm or such, in the size & weight smaller and lighter than the Bigma / Sigma 50-500, designed to match the Pentax 1.4 Tele converter, would just be fine.
(It would not even have to be waterproof….as in the rain, I’m unlikely to shoot much stuff that needs such a long lens….

If you're using SR to refer not to shake reduction in general, but specifically Pentax's trademarked Shake Reduction, then it's a pretty empty boast.

There'd be no contest, and no contest means no winner.

I suspect there's a very good chance we'll see the new K-mount DA standard zoom (DA 18-70 f2.8-4?) and the telezoom (DA 150-450 f4-5.6?). These will be fast focusing lenses optimized to take advantage of the K-3's improved AF capabilities. Also two more 645D zooms (to complement the wide angle one recently announced).

Also might see the new wide angle K-Mount zoom. Some Q stuff. Perhaps some sort of Ricoh branded GR type camera. But these are less likely.

Will we see more DSLRs (other than the K-S1)? Would that really be a good thing? The technology is mature and there's no pressing need for new cameras. They'd merely be slight upgrades on what is currently available. What is needed is fast focusing lenses.

No FF, no large sensor compact MILC. 2014 was the year of the 645D. 2015 and 2016 will be all about FF. After 2016, Ricoh will begin formulating their own quirky take on a compact APS-C mirrorless system. But just as the development of the 645Z and lenses has delayed FF, so will FF delay the development of the mirrorless system.

Now K-S1 is officially announced before Photonika (as I thought it would be in order to get more exposure now instead of getting buried under 20 other announcements from other manufactures). I am guessing and hoping there will be some focus on lenses at the show.

Very insightful prediction. In both cases opportunity cost is sunk cost, but the market for a well-designed and well thought out FF and (same) APSc mirrorless will exist for Pentax then just as it did before.
