I am guessing and hoping there will be some focus on lenses at the show.
Plus one.

From the rumour sites, at Photokina, a couple of interesting possibilities that seem to reflect a trend to more MP, which may influence what Pentax unveils.

It seems Sony is likely to release a high MP (>36MP) A7 variant, maybe even MF. And Samsung are due to unveil a new 'pro' flagship NX1 with a totally new 28MP 'high-performance' sensor, possibly FF but probably APS-C. If it is indeed APS-C, it will be the first APS-C to break the 24MP barrier.

More mp? I thought the mp race was over. More mp is bigger files. More megapixels are also useless when shooting with kit zooms. Samsung is not really a player yet anyway. I guess you could make a 48mp FF, but to what use?

The 645Z and even the A7R show the MP race isn't over yet, by a long shot, where the sensor size can sustain packing more megapickles in. But I was surprised to see it arise as a possibility within APS-C. So far, I thought, 24MP was the practical limit for APS-C, in terms of maintaining decent IQ. We won't have to wait long to find out, I guess, if that threashold has now been crossed.

Samsung are a bigger brand than they used to be, but yes, even if they release some amazing new pro mirrorless body at Photokina, they will struggle to become a major camera player. But the NX mount already has about 8 native lenses and 8 Samyangs for it, so I guess that's a decent start.

I really don't see Sony releasing a MF body unless it's a product of their partnership with Hasselblad, which until now has only produced rebranded Sony bodies. I imagine a high MP A7 variant would be intended to compete with the Nikon D810.

I think there will be another APSc camera DSLR or mirrorless. longer K zoom -at least 400mm. I would come out wth a upper scale Q body. Q macro.
thanks

645Z is MF It's pixels are about the size of the D800/7R Which are about the size of the pixels in the K-5. It's more about iq than pixelcount. You could take FF to 48 or 54mp with good glass. De 645 sensor could probably go up to 75mp without running into real diffraction problems. There is an optimum amount of pixels for sharpness on each sensor size. Beyond that it's just detrimental to iso performance and you run into diffraction limits sooner.

Unless there is a sensor tech breakthrough. BSI CMOS raised the bar over CCD. Who knows what the future might hold. Maybe 28MP or above APS-C will be the norm in 2 years, with great image quality.

Not that I really want 28MP or 36MP, or more. My computer struggles with 24MP RAWs today.

In theory, one should be able to limit the image size in camera and get more buffer space for burst shots though. So if the camera is geared towards taking 36 MP images at 6 fps for 14 images, then maybe at half that MP count we could see 12 fps for 28 images or at least some mixture of fps and image count increase.

Well good news for those who are hoping for a 35mm DSLR. You are more likely to get your wish than am I.

Please a flash and firmware that comes even close to the Nikon SB910. Oh and a new hotshoe adapter that has the cable exiting on the left side instead of across the shutter button. Honestly RIcoh, I promise I will learn to love P-TTL.

Other: Pentax will announce a line of spray paints so consumers can change the color of their cameras whenever they like.

I'll just tape over the Krylon name on the back.
