Eh, not necessarily. A new WG camera with, say, a 1/1.7" or larger sensor would be quite nice to have.

Plus RAW output!

I swear that's the only other thing I want in a lifeproof camera.

Well small camera's need a bigger sensor to win from smartphones.

A little early for this, unless it is a new actioncamera to compeet with GoPro.

minimum lens support
Sigh. Minimum lens support (as in literally zero pre-existing FE lenses) didn't stop Sony launching their A7 series of full-frames. But for Pentax, despite the existence of about 20 FF lenses in their catalogue, it's an insurmountable problem ...

Anyway, we have a whole FF section to discuss these things.

That they do.. I don't think we got any word of the K-50 (or K-30 or both) until a few days before their launch.. they are good with keeping secrets secret.

RAW for an underwater, pocket camera? Who cares about RAW in such cameras?

I would! I would! It would be great to play around with the highest quality data available from an image sensor that went under water!

But, I understand that I am in a firm minority.

Original Poster
It was pointed out on a Japanese forum that the Pentax WG series cameras were made in Indonesia, whereas this is made in China. I think this is further evidence that we are looking at a new type of camera or a continuation of the Ricoh G700, which was always made in China. The suggestion of an action camera seems logical to me.

And I do think there is a place for an underwater camera with RAW. Right now, I think the Nikon 1 AW is the only RAW-capable camera that can go underwater without a housing. Is there anything else?

Indeed! My now more than 6 years old Optio W10 still works flawlessly. None of the newer models have tempted me yet - they need a real step up in IQ. A waterproof Q (like the Nikon AW1), now that would be interesting!

These cameras are used for more that shooting underwater such as being a great camera to take canoeing, kayaking cycling etc. And unless you wish to own a camera for every purpose it may be, as in my case, the only pocket digital camera I own. The are also useful in shooting in very heavy rains. I very much wished my WGIII could shoot in RAW. For me personally I would rather my WGIII shot in RAW than for Pentax to release a FF camera and a dozen new lenses.

The point is we all have different wants and needs.

With the interchangeable lenses, it would take a waterproof housing to do that.
