I thought it was a fair statement. Pentax also has a number of lenses which aren't compatible with the K-S1, basically all of the Q and 645 lenses.

I don't agree. It is one more example where they would have stated total number of compatible lenses if it had been Canikon.
IchabodCrane, I think that is an unfair, biased statement ! I couldn't read it otherwise, but I believe that ALL M42, all K, all M, all F, all FA, all DA, all 645, all 67 lenses are compatible with the K-S1. We can't say the same for other brands!

Don't you think they were referring to the number of lenses currently produced that don't need an adapter? Heck, without that qualifier, the answer would be in the hundreds but you'd have to buy some adapters and do a lot of garage sale shopping.

No !!! Except for the M42 screw mount and the 645/67 lenses no need for adapters! And if you call eBay "a lot of garage sale", yes you're right!

"The K-S1 is compatible with Pentax's 40 lenses made for APS-C sensors" is different from "The K-S1 is compatible with THE Pentax's 40 lenses made for APS-C sensors" !!!

Besides that, canikons old lenses are not compatible with recent bodies! Pentax's ARE !!!

I think this is a case of general sloppiness and lack of attention to detail and good writing skills at DPReview. Assuming the writers know about Pentax backward compatibility, it would have been easy to add 'currently produced' to the sentence and would have clarified the statement for the reader.

Of course one can never assume a DPR reviewer knows much about Pentax when reviewing its products. Some are very good and informed - others, not so much.

OK, I get the point you're making but being pedantic doesn't do much when trying to prove DPR's willful dissing of Pentax.

I don't think it is pedantic at all.
By their words, read by someone not informed (heck why would they go to DPR but to be informed), that camera is only compatible with 40 lenses.
Seems stupid, I know, but that's how most people will understand the sentence. They won't look further.
Very DPR.

Ever heard a review stating the number of EF-S lenses compatible with the Rebels?
That would exactly the same thing: misleading if you're kind, a lie by omission if you're not.

Well we now are mixing the authorship of the article!! DPR has nothing to do, it is Tom's Hardware post! We can give them some allowance for they should know about PCs best!
