Actually, I knew that. They've been making some important parts for watches for decades decades.
For a company involved in watch making, isn't it surprising to see how little sense for good timing they have.

The old way is the big reveal during a big show and then compete with others for space on the front page. In that model, Pentax always loses out to Nikon, Canon, Leica, others even if they have a killer product. Nikon D750 and Canon 7D2 beat the Pentax 645Z to the front page of DPReview every time simply because DPReview knows that Nikon and Canon drive site traffic and ad revenue.

The new way is to announce before a big show, while the media is getting ready and consumers are salivating in anticipation. If you time it right and have a little luck, you get the media attention that you want and then coverage at the event from media that believe the buzz.

Had everyone launched products the old way, there's no way that anybody would have heard of the K-S1 except for the most loyal Pentaxicans. D750, 7D2, and others would have gotten all the headlines with the K-S1 as a footnote.

Some companies, notably Leica, still appear to follow the old PR/event model. But Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, and Pentax are using the new way.

So if anyone's expecting a Jobs-like, "Oh, and one more thing..." moment at Photokina, don't hold your breath.

After new announcements of all other brands, Ricoh looks very pale.

People, stop whining and switch to one of the "better" brands. If there's something disagreeable about being a Pentaxian, it's not as much the lack of announcements as the endless complaining and mockery. The saddest thing is - the competition doesn't have to pay shills to do it for them, it's all done freely by "Pentaxians".

Seriously. Brand loyalty is silly if it's stopping you from achieving your creative vision. If Pentax doesn't offer the products that you need to take the photos that you want, then find another brand. I shoot Pentax but I shoot Panasonic and Nikon as well because their products do things that Pentax can't.

Just because apparently, like Ricoh in America, they didn't invest the distribution network.
I had to visit London to actually put my hand on a copy of Galaxy NX....
