This sounds like excellent news for the 645 system. Pentax are addressing the identified issues.

Regards

This certainly is good news for those who do portraiture with the Pentax Digital 645 system outside the studio.

Obviously very good news.
Let's hope they also will adress the need of really fast fixed lenses ; the P645 system desperately needs f/2 lenses - look at the new Leica S 100mm f/2 that was leaked a few days ago...

...and look at the price of it. Leaf shutters put some hefty constraints on how fast a lens can get. Copal, who have been the most common maker of leaf shutters only allow for f/2.2 lenses at the fastest. Seiko have been getting out of the shutter business from what I have heard. Pentax would have to outsource them from someone else, which can be really expensive or make their own - which in the short term can be majorly expensive but from a practical standpoint would be perhaps the best way to go.

60mm F2.0 LS

Is it Likely or practical? I cant see it happening but it might be a game changer for the system.

What I would give for people to stop using that phrase. To answer the question of course it is practical - whether it will sell in enough quantities to make it viable is the problem.

Let's take this a step further. Here's the same rumour translated into Japanese.

PENTAX 645???????????????????????? - ????info

And now Google translated back into English.

"Lens of the lens shutter with a PENTAX 645 for the soon appearance?

In Photo Rumors, comments about the medium-format camera PNETAX of Michael Reichmann's photographer has been featured.
- New Leaf shutter Pentax 645 medium format Lenses coming soon

Mr. Michael Reichmann of Luminous Landscape is, PentaxForum have posted an interesting comment.

"Pentax has said tethering shooting functions in the studio is to be added to the end of the year. Lens group new leaf shutter (lens shutter) also appear"

Perhaps the official announcement would be made at Photokina.
The medium format camera Mamiya of (PhaseOne), the lens has a lens shutter also because it is the lineup, I might be to prepare the lens of the lens shutter Pentax 645 as well.

When's lens shutter, tuning full speed of the flash becomes possible, it is likely to be useful in the studio shooting. After that, it also has benefits lens shutter, shutter shock becomes less."

But joking aside, I think this has some credibility because Michael Reichmann is not just some random commenter. He has a reputation to lose, so it's probably more than idle speculation.

"Game changer" isn't the worst. It's not as bad as "paradigm shift".

As far as I'm concerned, you can add "Pentax is doomed" to that list.

That sounds good. Leaf shutter lenses and studio tethering were what several reviewers were remarking on when comparing the 645Z to the Phase 1 and the Hasselblad equivalents.

Does "game changer" get used frequently? I thought I was the first.

"Game changer"? neh - the Pentax MF system is way too expensive compared to APS-C for that already.

Imagine if the 645Z was $3995 -- that's a game changer.

It already is a game changer with its current price.
Geez you (we, me included) aren't the center of the universe and the 645z is NOT targeted to us but to other MFs and it simply kills them with tethering and leaf shutter at its current price.
