Accessorily, "thin depth of field users" too

I'm a Nikon user as well and rarely open up more than 2.8 because i like stuff to be in focus

If they really wanted shallow DOF they would all be using Leicas with the Noctilux 50mm f/0.95. Most Canon/Nikon photographers want the easy, take anywhere convenience of 35mm, medium format requires more of a commitment than 35mm. In terms of technique Medium format is harder to use, there is a higher cost of entry and lenses, filters, tripods and ball heads all cost more because of the increased physical demands placed on them. There is more to Medium format than the superficial needs of shallow DOF, you're much better off using 35mm where the lenses are still* smaller than the Medium format equivalents would be.

The fastest Medium format lens ever made was an 85mm f/1.8 that covered full 645 format - and trust me, that is as fast as you would ever want to get for medium format.

* The Carl Zeiss OTUS 55mm f/1.4 takes the prize for the biggest 55mm lens ever made for the FX format. The Pentax D-FA55mm f/2.8 is smaller than the OTUS.

I agree with your developpements, there is much more than depth of field btw 35mm and 645 digital.

But in order to really dig the gap, and stop influent voices always saying "the gap is closing" btw 35mm and MF ; the 4 points i made must be adressed.

That has more to do with the flash duration rather than sync speed.
This as only to do with the blurr tolerance in your shots.

Interesting indeed, without autofocus in the Otus..

You can't use that lens on a 645D.
You don't say!

In medium format, Zeiss and Scheider produced f/2 leaf shutter lenses for the Rollei 6008,
at a registration distance almost 5mm longer than the Pentax 645 (75.32mm vs. 70.87).

So, now we know, even in the very confidential medium format section, P.I.D. applies

I am more amazed that if this is true, will more likely lead to revamp of the (entire?) 645 lens series, in order of depletion of the old stock. So when an old lens is gone, a new one but with a leaf shutter will jump in?
Which is unbelievable, considering that it is ok to redesign 645 lenses, and semi-publicly announce it, but not ok to finally introduce a pair of kit lenses for the K-mount with a decent motor? I wonder how many billions of screw drive 18-55 they have produced they can't exhaust the stock?

And to think I had one of those and basically gave it away with my Mamiya 645....

I remember using a 90 mm, F 2.8 Leaf shutter lens on a Pentax 6 X 7. Excellent lens. Also all my Mamiya-Sekor lenses for my Mamiya film medium format system are leaf shutter...as is my Zeiss Ikon camera lens.

I'm a fan.

My first SLR, acquired at the age of 14, had a leaf shutter behind the lens mount - a Topcon Unirex. A really nice camera, but the lens system was small and the lenses hard to find in pre ebay times, so I sold in order to have enough funds to buy a Pentax MX a couple of years later (1977 or 1978).

There are scads of C and D mount lenses for similarly-sized CCTV sensors that go well below f/1.
With a leaf shutter?

My Olympus 35SP ("full frame") had an f/1.7 lens with a leaf shutter.

There's got to be some major disadvantage right? Why don't they make SLRs with leaf shutters? Strobists would sure dig it.
