Again, it is the rebadged / tweaked / seasoned OEM product: PIXPRO SP1.

Kodak Digital Cameras | SP1 Action Cam

This is becoming very, very exciting from Ricoh. Can't wait for more JK products with Ricoh's/Pentax's name on them!

There is just so much wrong (and typical) about this entire line of discussion . . . . . . .
Care to elaborate?

So Wait.

Guy who uses Pentax, uses MIRRORLES Pentax, uses Pentax video, gets published regularly in the right demo magazines using Pentax, does cool stuff using Pentax on bikes lent by manufacturers to journos - not including the dark-humor-but-attention-grabbing side of the net (NCN) about Pentax - essentially a cultivar of the real-deal corporate ambassador - THIS GUY can't get a loaner WG-M1 / test camera to roll on his bike with all the mount attachments?

Dudes. Lose the dark suits and black-frame glasses.

As you know, this is absolutely standard practice in the industry for compact cameras. Only the really high end compacts are made in the "real" factories of the brand name manufacturers. Ricoh does this for the GR, but not for products that can just as well be made by OEM companies.

Thanks for the support. I just wish you had waited until I requested a 645Z.

It isn't worth a thread of its own but Ricoh also released the G800 everything-proof camera for use on construction sites. The G700 was a pretty old camera, so the G800 has a significantly better sensor, screen and so on. Basically, it's standard point and shoot for people who need to be absolutely sure their shots are safe and secure.

???????????????? RICOH G800 / ??????? | ???

It probably isn't of much interest to anyone on this forum unless you happen to spend your holidays in Mordor.

The tree climber should have been on the other side to avoid that awful flare.
And I saw all sorts of pixellation in the shadows, during the downhill portion even in HD. Maybe it is a Youtube issue?
I've never noticed, does GoPro video look this bad?

Edit: I guess it is similar - here is a GoPro video for comparison
GoPro: Louis Pilloni & Sector 9 - Downhill Skateboarding - YouTube
Well the GoPro has some issues, in the sky with the blues and on the sides with pixelasation, but is definately the better camera. Looks like a to cheap camera to me. These guys live of delivering footage to all actioncamera manufaturars wannabees I think.

Well that is maybe one reason they won't survive. All those compact can do the exact same trick at the same level as 6 years ago. There is almost like no market for it anymore. The few markets that have a future in compacts are bridge and actioncamera's. Those markets have havily competition and you need to bring something new to stand out.

Video bitrate is rather low. Kodak has 14 Mbit/s. It's not interesting. 30-35 is much better.
It's good that Ricoh offers something, but this camera is nor good P&S camera, neither very good action camera.
Not innovative product. Middle level.
Action camera needs 1080@60. 720@120.

How many mounts, different platforms and products GoPro has in their catalogue?

It is ridiculous to expect Ricoh Imaging will deliver a GoPro killer — or kill the king on his own hill — because "only that would matter". That is not the goal. Ricoh does not care about this particular market *that* much. I understand the purpose behind the WG-M1 — to infiltrate a certain vertical market with their mere presence. Once they have some presence, the next move may be more ambitious.

Currently this is marketing with cheap products that disappear next year, rather than spending marketing money on TV commercials that disappear next week. Got it? In marketing terms, this is called crossing the chasm, and it is a first step towards the new market. The ticket to it is cheap for them — by using an OEM product dressed up in new clothes.

So this is nothing but a nicely put marketing strategy to make presence somewhere. However, it disheartens only because it is Photokina next week, and this is "product news" before it. When in fact this is not a Ricoh's own product nor a product worth seriously debating about at all, just a marketing gimmick. Yet, the real products are nowhere ... not even a lens.

Well it's only to be expected that they would reserve the biggest and most important surprises for photokina. I have high expectations for this year.
