hard to beat GoPro for their huge ads spending...

but owning a GoPro I realized the camera interface probably the worse one can have...

According to GoPro's founder, most of their advertising comes from their user base. The only thing they really sped money on is the airtime and sponsorships. Content is almost entirely user created. Maybe Pentax should go this route with user created content.

Well there is nothing wrong with that, it got a new packaging and it looks a better camera. Apparently Ricoh Imaging and JK Imaging are working together on projects.

The only thing even remotely similar between the two cameras is that they're yellow

Ricoh has to do something like this, because Apple just drove the last nails into the coffin of the compact camera today.

Garmin France gave 100 action camera Virb to testers to create content from them. Virb has also screen on a top same front lens.

It's 6.9 mm thick. Easier to fit in a pocket than any camera I know of.

So I give major kudos to Ricoh again showing a camera that changes up the design concepts and makes something that looks interesting! Now if only in the US people could actually see it in a Target, Dick's Sporting Goods, REI, LL Bean, Best Buy, etc. Also I think it good to get attention with unique looks or interfaces, but you still have to beat on specs too! I don't know a bunch about GoPros but they are the competition in this space! And they shoot 60fps which is critical for sports and action where these are primarily used. So that is a fail. And you can also shoot 4K on one of the GoPro models. So again, a possible fail by Ricoh in being able to compete with this camera.

Maybe Ricoh could do a licensing or partnership deal and make this the LL Bean edition or something like that or National Geographic or get some big name partner that gives a camera like this exposure and some instant credibility and marketing assistance

If true it would likely have accessories released with it, like a handlebar mount and suction mount. Looks cool. I don't think this segment of the camera market is going away any time soon. Why let GoPro have all the fun & profit!!
