I'm afraid Pentax may think you spend big money enough in bikes, to be able to afford Ricoh's new gadgets
Those are press bikes. Motorcycle companies understand the value of good product placement.

There is just so much wrong (and typical) about this entire line of discussion . . . . . . .

Just go to Flickr and compare the number of people using the iPhone compared to any compact camera.

The top 5 cameras are 4 iPhones and the Soccer Mom Canon T3i.

As a company Pentax is 10th, Ricoh is 20th.
Well, exactly.
You just proved this was very effective as a marketing thing as it drives sales heavily to the top.
I'm not quite sure though that the T3i comparison is doing anything but suggesting the iphone camera is crap.
But thanks for developing other viewpoints for us

Got an email with a video attached. Nice video using the camera with some extreme athletes…but none of them were surfing, skiing or anything else involving the cold or water which is one of the prime selling points, right?

Here is the video link since it doesn't look like anyone has shared it yet.

Nice find! Perhaps the WG-M1 comes out of the same factory as the XG-1....

Any idea on the price yet? I was planning to get a GoPro in the next year, but I may go this route instead.

Also kind of interesting details…
f/2.8 lens
Video speeds: 1920x1080(30fps), 1280x960(50fps), 1280x960(30fps), 1280x720(60fps), 1280x720(30fps), 848x480(60fps), 848x480(120fps) - So 960 at 50 is a little better I guess and can at least do 720 at 6t0
USB 2.0 connectivity - why? Why not 3.0 which is light years faster and more current?
Has a rechargeable battery listed as coming in the box - so you can buy extra batteries for it which is nice
Has a lens protector and underwater lens protector in the box as well

And one of the biggest things… Listed at $299.95! I think this is a good price!!

Too bad that 120fps is only for at most 60 seconds. And it looks like the clips are limited to 25 minutes per the specs on the Pentax web store, but then again I guess the XG-1 and GoPro are meant for slightly different purposes so maybe it's not such a big deal.

The tree climber should have been on the other side to avoid that awful flare.
And I saw all sorts of pixellation in the shadows, during the downhill portion even in HD. Maybe it is a Youtube issue?
I've never noticed, does GoPro video look this bad?

Edit: I guess it is similar - here is a GoPro video for comparison

Yeah, at a glance it looks a lot like video from my son's GoPro Hero2. Maybe in someone else's hands it will be more impressive? I want to like it.

Good looking product. I like the color choices and there are a large number of accessories on the web site... like - a long list!! I think this will do well being waterproof without an additional accessory to make it so. The only thing that hurts the sale of new cameras like this is the number of used versions one can find on Craigslist, etc. Sure Ricoh is late to the party, but the party is going strong with these cameras, so better late than never. It's a nice addition to the WG line. Wonder what stores will carry this?
