Missing the tech, are we?

Exif is a read of the camera state and is generated when the file is written, not the other way around.

I guess you didn't know that, eh?

A DOF read-out is a possible feature, but would be sort of a strange one given that the camera is capable of both optical and digital DOF preview. There is also the fact that DOF is highly dependent on the final viewing size and viewing distance and is not a calculated absolute. Compare my avatar image at left to the original HERE.

Funny, the young ones I talk to are convinced that they can't get what they want because us old geezers have so much buying power. I guess you're thinking a lot of us will die, and a lot of young people will have a lot more money than they have now.

They could add a "buy a good photo" button (like those guitars with built in radios? )
They analyse your photo and sell you a similar but better one - or buy yours to sell to others.

Or possibly a "reap your soul" option for selfies. As some natives always suspected, take a picture, take the soul.

On a more serious note, add gyroscopes to the camera for better image stabilisation, especially when filming. Maybe even for motion capture. The hyperlapse app just proved it can work and that is a feature I would really love to have (besides better movie quality).

Edit: DOF app could be nice. Or adding it to live view, like thin lines at front and back of that live focus thingie.
Edit2: Achievements as in steam games to show off to your pals (like "Cliffhanger - I dropped my camera 50 times before it shattered"

d: Focus stacking app Yup

I'm 56.

Those app are not expansive, since there is a base for them, like android soft and hardware, which are also cheap.

About young generation, I just hope that they will have an earth to support their life.

1:Touchscreen UI Come on, there are already DSLRs and P&S cameras with this "feature" The fact that it isn't taking over the world should tell you something.
a: Picture recording app Just another variation of tethering?
b: Video recording app Just another variation of tethering?
c: Viewing app Just another variation of tethering?
d: Settings app Just another variation of tethering?
e: Preferences app Just another variation of tethering?
2: Ricoh/Pentax camStore - Camera app store.
Ricoh/Pentax need to change their in-camera digital information (not image) processing to allow full-featured, easily implemented tethering before it puts any lame and crippled software out in the wild. The means of communicating with the camera isn't as important as actually creating a channel of communication in the first place. Definitely a huge missed opportunity.
a: Camera apps can be bought and downloaded directly onto the camera
b: Camera apps can be updated directly onto the camera
3: App examples
a: DOF app: Automatically calculates Depth of Field from the exif data provided by the camera
b: HDR app
c: Panorama stitch app
d: Focus stacking app
e: Filter simulation app
e: etc.
a: to b: and a: to e: again - nothing wrong with these ideas, and the beauty of software is that it costs relatively little to produce multiple variations of the same basic idea.

The medium is the message, and photography is a medium for communications. The user interface is just the hardware that enables communication, and too often we confuse the programming behind the user interface device with the programming behind the human taking photographs. For example, an optical viewfinder is a wonderful UI for photography, because it provides so much information to the user about how the photographic image will look to other human beings, yet investments continue to be made to produce cameras that don't have an optical viewfinder. And don't confuse the "features" of the free cameras included with cell phones, with features that improve communication through photography. When camera manufacturers start building in cell phones to help sell their cameras, the role of a phone camera will become obvious. In the film era, photographs taken with disposable cameras were better than not taking a picture at all, but disposable cameras didn't kill film SLRs. DSLRs killed film SLRs.
