Pentax has been zooming us for over 10 years . . . oh you mean lenses. Never mind. Hysterical

Sort of except the 35-70 is faster.

that 16-85 lens sounds good. Do you know about if it's fixed aperture or not? a 2.8-4 or even a fixed 4 would be sweet....
Asahiman claimed last year it will start at F2.8 and most likely be f2.8-4.
But now it's a slow kit lens...

That was the 'DA* Zoom' prototype. It got ditched.

I find it funny. we're (with exceptions) so frustrated right now, but we really don't even know what's to be released (though we have a pretty good idea). I'm holding my breath, and hoping for the best!

Come on... no-one has ever released a 16-85/2.8-4. The closest thing is the Sigma 17-70/2.8-4. The Nikons and Canons (16-85 and 15-85 respectively) are also 3.5-5.6. Is it really that surprising that this Pentax lens isn't that fast?

Also, what do you mean by calling it a kit lens? That it will be included with a DSLR? How do you know that? And even if it's true, what difference does it make?

If the IQ is of * quality, no difference. If the IQ is of kit lens quality, then a lot.

Agreed. I'm disappointed it is not constant f/4 but if IQ is excellent maybe it is not so bad. But if the IQ is not significantly better than 18-135, then sorry I don't see a reason for this.

It sometimes seems that the place can get a little heated (and I have ranted here before too), but at least the amounts of "PentaxIsDoomed!!!" has decreased! Maybe because "RicohImagingCompanyLtdIsDoomed!!!" is now a little more relevant and accurate!!! xD

I bet it's priced at $750 or something ridiculous like that.

I swear that if Pentax released a 16-1600mm f2.8 zoom for 200 bucks people would complain that it too bulky and that since Canikon doesn't have one its not worth their time.

To be fair, that would be a HUGE lens... I would find a way to use it though
