It so happens that fast prime lenses do not seem to be Ricoh's cup of tea lately.

If you crave them, you would be better off with the Fujifilm X system.

There are still quite a few options with Sigma or Samyang in K mount... actually more choice than with Fuji X.

I really Wonder why such a hipe for Fuji : big, heavy (but one, rather a big "pancake"), and costly lenses, flaring like ghosts, with no WR but one at this moment.... and sparsely stabilised... and still 16 Mpix sensor.... making any K-3 shot look better detailled... + X-T1 always overpriced...

Because, Fuji started to work just 2 years ago and offer a lot of fast primes. Ricoh can't.
We compare the attitude to developing lenses and nothing else.

Focal length is excellent. If it was constant f/4, and the high standard of IQ that would imply I think everyone at least some, would be happy. But f/3.5-5.6 implies a low end lens with no more than adequate IQ.

I think owners of the Nikon 16-85/3.5-5.6 would have a different opinion.

I don't need that, and that's why I personally am disappointed. Cannot speak for anyone else, but the 18-135 already gives you 85mm @ f/5.6 if you don't like the IQ beyond 85mm ignore it. So why another low end zoom with a focal length that is already covered?

From a practical point of view, I'd rather have a lens that does everything within its range very well, so that I can stop worrying about that and just take shots. Plus, from looking at the review, I think I wouldn't be too happy with the IQ beyond 70mm, or even lower, in some circumstances.

I do not see any place for this in the line up except as a replacement for the 18-55 kit lens on higher end bodies. As such I am sure it will be a good lens, and a good move on Ricoh's part as they do need a better kit lens especially for the k-3.

If it delivers well optically, I will certainly be tempted by this lens. I could really need a WR lens for my K-5, and for me 16-85 is a more useful range than 18-135.

By definition the longer zooms are always FF-compatible. So whatever fancy name they'll get it'll work on FF
