Originally posted by Cynog Ap Brychan I know the debate has moved on a little from the 16-85mm, but I still want my two-penn'orth. If it is offered as a kit zoom, and is priced between the 18-55 and the 18-135, I think it makes quite a lot of sense. It is quiet, so maybe it can get rid of reviewers' perennial whine about the whine.... (sorry). Also, 24mm equivalent FoV is the new 28: I certainly find 16mm much more useful than 18mm for my photography. Finally, although it is relatively slow, is this such a big deal for most people, especially ones who maybe never buy a second lens? With ISO on Auto, and good performance up to 3200, f5.6 is not such a bad deal for general use, especially outdoors, where its weather sealing comes to the fore. I just hope it is not priced too close to the 18-135, and is a bit better optically.
Other way to see it is that DA 18-135 is too pricey for what it brings.
I was hoping this 16-85 could be a f2.8-4 to be a flagship kitlens for K3 and upcoming APSC body but from what we know now I only see it as a useful replacement of 18-55.
I do not see this 2mm difference between 16 and 18 a big enough argument to compete against perfect walkround lens that is 18-135
