That's good. I saw a comparison between the 16-85mm and 18-135mm on that other forum. Damn, this is one big pens for the aperture.

I think that's a quick focus lock button, to keep your lens from hunting.

Looking at the photos I expect the 16-85mm will be upscale from the 18-135mm, with more correcting elements, a larger diameter barrel for lower vignetting, considerably heavier and pricier.

I agree and expect the 16-85 will be priced marginally higher than the 18-135.

I'm gong with the 16-85 as a replacement for the 18-55. I doubt anyone who loves their 18-135 is going to consider this lens an upgrade... based on what? The 18-55 is the weakest lens in the Pentax line-up. The 18-135 for us out doors types is the most useful, and losing 50 mm in the long end is a no go. Often for the wildlife we shoot 135 is long enough, and the 18-135 still has excellent center sharpness ( and my copy is not bad for edge sharpness either). When Tess is shooting beside me , often with the Tamron 90, she finds it a 90 a little short. So based on our usage, this lens won't replace my 18-135, or Tess' Tamron 17-50 2.8. But the two 18-55s, with extended range and WR, if it came cheap on a camera body, I might be tempted. I need one more body cap for one of my film cameras, it could look good in this capacity. And 16mm is a nice touch...formerly a focal length only addressed with the 16-50. 16mm for us poor people/

I'm going to consider the new 16-85 to replace my 18-135. True, my 18-135 is my workhorse, that gets the most usage because of its versatile FL and WR. But I only got it to replace my THIRD DA 16-45. All three 16-45 suffered wobbly barrels after some time. And that 18-135 is still going as strong as day one. Fact remains that its IQ is not all that good. Especially in the longer end. If the 16-85 is only slightly better, me, my LBA and my weak backbone are gonna go get it.

It doesn't work. Saw a video a few years ago using Olympus. With stabilization on in both body and lens, the shake went wild. They were each interfering with each other.

Perhaps the optical stabilisation can handle translation and the sensor shift system can handle rotation? The two systems should be able to work together?

I like the automatic horizon correction I get as a byproduct of SR. I like it a lot.

Between 600 and 800 dollars would be a good estimate. Cheaper when bought as a kit in a deal.

Yes, well what if Pentax did find a way of having the two work together? Remember the AA-filter-simulator and how they said they were looking into more of explaiting the SR?

Will try to find out more on Friday, but I guess they won't let the cat out of the bag as they haven't done so already. Just hope that they'll feature the DC-drive rather than the revised SDM. I'm not so bothered about in lens OS, quite happy with the in-body solution with my 250-600 and I've yet to see a test which really proves one or the other to be better. A portable long zoom with high quality would be really nice...

I'm hoping that the 70-200-ish lens will feature ring-type ultrasonic AF, and maybe the 100-400-ish lens will too.

Actually, all this is just an end to a means: I'm hoping that the AF will be faster and more reliable than current SDM implementations.

Wrt IBIS or ILIS: IBIS will allow features like horizon correction, AA filter simulation, astro tracer etc. ILIS providing conventional stabilisation may be more useful for long lenses because, in addition to the sensor, the AF array and the viewfinder will also see a stabilised image.
