I don't expect it to be stellar, just a decent zoom.

For 750$? You can get a 18-135mm for 500$, so this has better be good, unless you value that highly those 2mm at the wide end.
If that's the case, for about the same price of the 18-135mm you can get the 16-45mm, which hasn't got the reach of this new model, but is a constant f/4.

I'm probably repeating what has already been said, but I see this as a middle-ground solution which isn't really appealing, at least for me... unless IQ is very high, of course...

I am aware that street price is probably going to decrease in a little while, though...

I expect that price to drop after a couple months, that might make the lens nore attactive.

That's what happened with the DA 18-135.

Yeah, but how much?
The 18-135 was 600GBP at launch, now is around 350GBP...
Even at about the same price I'd go either with reach (18-135) or speed (16-45)...
Personal preference, of course, but I can't seem to find it attractive, unless, as I stated, IQ is very good.

Is the DA 16-45 really any faster than the DA 16-85? My guess (until the lens is released) is the aperture won't be significantly different than f/4 at 45 mm.

If it matches the reputation of the Nikon equivalent, it won't be a fast lens, but it will be very sharp.

My guess it will be from 4.5 to 4.8 at 45mm, which would be slower, but its still quabbling about 1/3 to 1/2 a stop. Pentax really must want good edge performance to have such a large front element and it still be 3.5-5.6.

Well Pentax does have a history of preferring... well pretty much anything over speed when it comes to glass.

And I think it makes sense, especially for this lens. What do you need speed for? Sports, but for that you use a fast tele. Street in the evening or at night? Use a fast prime. Wildlife at dusk or dawn? Again, fast tele.

I see this lens as a capable, all-purpose outdoor lens.

I'm not being critical of their philosophy, just pointing out. All that glass at relatively slow speed indicates either a great IQ or a massive failure.

K-mount Lenses / Lenses / Products | RICOH IMAGING
Indeed, the K-mount roadmap has been slightly and silently updated.

In the framework of their announcement at Photokina, Ricoh published the following roadmap on September 16th:

Since then, but I only discovered it this morning thanks to your post, they have published the following one:

Both are labelled as "Updated: September 2014". The only differences I can see are that the former * Tele Zoom has become the Large diameter telephoto zoom and the former Tele Zoom has become the High magnification super-telephoto zoom, i.e. the denominations of the mock-ups shown under glass at Photokina.

What can we infer from that "large diameter" wording? Also "large(r) image circle"?
