I will only be going to Photokina on Sunday, i.e. the last day, but I'll be taking a tape measure with me so I can get a more precise idea about the size of what we're seeing. Earlier visitors are welcome to try and measure as well of course...

A portable X-ray machine would be useful to bring along to Photokina too, if you can get it past security and wheel it up against the Pentax lens display cabinet. That will help answer a lot of questions.

Either it's incredibly large for an f/4 lens, or it's indeed an f/2.8. I didn't had a measuring tape with me - this is my eyestimation, but I'm pretty confident in it

I'll see if I can find one...
To be honest, the displayed lenses may not even be functional, i.e. just empty shells for display purpose only... Even the size may not be final yet. I seem to remember seeing the first mock-up of the DA*60-250/4 at an earlier edition of Photokina. It was quite different from the final version (e.g. lacking room for a tripod mount).

It's a sure thing, IMHO: It would be weird of them to use the term "large diameter telephoto zoom" if it were an f/4.

Now they only need a standard zoom for FF, and the FF can finally come on display under glass at CP+

I must have missed something. I thought that there was a super telephoto lens something like a 100-400. Have the lenses been officially announced other than the 16-85? I was hoping for the 100-400 especially if it's WR at least.

Announced, no; displayed under glass as "under development" / prototypes, yes.

Oh, I thought I was going to get one of those 100-400 or 135-540 to match my 18-135. Well, I guess I'll follow what you're saying 'good things are coming to those who wait a lot'.

Truthfully nobody knows anything about what this 100-400ish zoom will actually be or "if" it will ever happen other than a line drawn on a chart. Smoke and mirrors is the Ricoh customer way.... Maybe it will happen if you are willing to wait looooooooooooong enough. I'm not.

Notable is the lack of "sr" in that alphabet soup.

these both seem like great additions to the line up. I really hope they both have really great performance in terms of autofocus speed and optics. They both look quite massive,does anyone care to guess they cost of these beasts will be.

80-200 2.8 ----> 2000?
100-400 ?? -----> 2500?
