From what I read, both will be announced sometime in 2015.

$2,200 is expensive? Nah.

That's the KitLens for the FF.

I think that it will take the better part of the next year to see the final specifications of the new telephoto zooms.

I just hope the image quality of the 120-400 is far above the DA55-300 level too....... (even if it means a $2000 price.)

Pentax really need a pro lens in this focal length to compete with the new Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM lens, IMO.

I'd like it to be a 100-500 to match up with Sigma's 150-500. I also hope it would be an AW if its going to be in the 2000 range.

I'd rather it match up with the Tamron 150-600 for range and be WR too. In fact I would be okay with a rebadged Tamron or Sigma 150-600 with weather sealing.

There certainly is a lot of Tamron 150-600 envy out there. I've seen people going "ooooh aaaaawwwww" over it at a few of the places I shoot birds. However, since they are shooting FF, I'm getting the same reach with my A-400.

I think one of them on my K3 would be great for wildlife and distant astronomical objects. The optics would be better than my telescopes too.

It would be nice if Sigma and Tamron would make WR lenses for Pentax. But as it is, its quite difficult to even get a regular Sigma or Tamron lens here in my part of the jungle.

For now i'm using SMC takumar 300mm f/4 for birding and still looking 400mm f/5.6. Since 2010 this range (120/135/150-380/400/450 or whatever) appears on roadmap it makes me waiting in vain.

Yup agree hope much better than DA 55-300 even below DA*60-250 f/4 cause this not * class.

Even optical performance same with DA 55-300 i'll buying it. Oowwwwhhh Pentax don't make me wait forever.

Now that I've seen the review of the Sigma 150-500 on YouTube, I think I'd settle for a 100-400 with probably a 3.5-4.5 aperture. The lens review was okay but because of its size and weight, it was difficult to shoot hand held. So a shorter lens with a wider aperture would be a better trade off.

Why would a 400/4.5 be lighter?
