Pancakes. Portability. Compactness. Usability. Money.

These are very small lenses. They have less materials and less distribution costs. No internal motors so far less warranty accrual.

They serve a market not served by other brands.

I think you are with the wrong brand. Maybe in the wrong country :-)
I totally agree with you. The aperture is smaller, but it's way cheaper and way lighter than any zeiss/sony

Don't start trying to end the bickering with facts... they find it really annoying.

I am just amazed. We actually have something like real indications that a FF is coming and the NAYSAYERS and TROLLS just bray LOUDER about how bad things are.

I am now convinced that competitors are paying these people to post on these threads. It is the only logical explanation.

no confirmation from Ricoh Japan as far as I learn, only "rumor" from Ricoh France FB page.

I wouldn't put any hope in a Pentax FF....after being disappointed with so many years of rumors....

Human behavior is non-linear, unlike, say, a camera, FF or otherwise.

Actually, there has been official confirmation from Ricoh's European Product Manager Laurence Bouly in an interview that Pentax is hard at work developing a full-frame DSLR. I wouldn't be so quick to call BS this time.

As you well know, no Japanese Executive is going to say, "Yes. we are making it and we'll announce it April 15, 2015." [EDIT: I am too Western to interpret what seemed to me to be tone cahgne in the interviews this year.]

It is coming.

It's amazing how I can listen to and read the transcript and say.."the Pentax will be out next year," and someone else can read the same article and say nothing has changed. it took from the time they finished with the K-3 to the time the finished with the 645z to update the 645D. The engineers are now working on the FF. The interviewed executive actually said "the Full Frame" as opposed to "a Full Frame". I know it's too subtle for many to comprehend, but it's a huge difference. One is generic, one is specific. These are the types of markers that define english comprehension skills.

The AF module is functional and will be the same one in the K-3 and 645 D. There will be the same two card slots and image processor. All they need to do is the sensor module and the case. It won't take any longer than the 645z did after the K-3. I'm guessing June.

I know it's real this time, I'd just given up and decided to look into an A7r. That's a sure sign something is afoot. I always hang on until the end, and then give up just before what I want is announced. This has the norm head stamp of reality written all over it.

And it's also amazing how I can post this with references etc. and the same people say the same thing in a different thread as if I never posted in the previous one. I agree with mono-chrome, there are people paid by Pentax's competitors to troll on this forum. Now they may not be paid directly for being here, but among their other responsibilities, they are expected to do this in their "spare" time. What other possibility is there? They post their party line but don't alter their party line to indicate they've understood what others are saying. They repeat the same thing in multiple threads, if they were actually engaging with the people who respond to them, I might think they were just dense. But this is more than just dense. This is intentionally dense.

If you haven't a clue what I'm talking about, read the interview with the Japaneese execs on the front page of the site under Photokina 2014. There is no point at this time to repeat that there has been no official announcement. There was an announcement, made to Pentax staff, by a Japaneese official of Pentax... i.e. an official announcement, from Japan, that the only thing they don't know is the release date.

And if you don't understand that, seriously get an English teacher and have them sit down with you and work on your English comprehension skills. The message cannot be stated clearer, your comprehension needs to improve. And quit trolling the forum , playing dumb.

I can't emphasize too much what an honour it is for Adam in particular and the forum in general, that they made this announcement in an interview with PF forum staff. Their comments seemed to suggest a sincere respect for the work that's done here providing new Pentax users with good information and easing them into the brand. It's just odd, that some refuse to acknowledge the announcement, because it was made to 40,000 Pentax users instead of a more traditional launch point. Those guys (Pentax) understand which side their bread is buttered on.

All through the interview I kept wondering "why does this guy look so happy?" The he dropped the full frame info, and I thought, "that's why he looks so happy."

He spoke quite proudly about people having to wait 3 weeks for their 645z cameras. I hope people save their pennies, and he's speaking with the same smile and pride after they release the FF.

I agree with Norm, it is pretty clear they are working on FF and the appropriate time to release it. I thought it was interesting that the interviewer mentioned sensors larger than apsc sensors, but the executives themselves brought up FF. They admit that the FF market is growing and they are developing Full Frames. I doubt with how conservative they can be, they would waste resources on that if they just wanted to play jokes on people as some posters have stated.

They've done that "We are working on a FF DSLR" since MZ-D... Once again! It's not that they cant make it. They are seeking for the best timing when parts are cheap enough to mass produce. However, the time is never right for them.......

I don't think Ricoh has put an official date on it, so folks are right who say that next year isn't a guarantee. At the same time, what is the next flagship camera after the K3? How does Ricoh sell it to folks who already own a K3? Unless Sony pulls a 36 megapixel APS-C sensor out of their fabs, what is next is unclear, unless Ricoh decides to release a larger sensor size.

As to the APS-C prime lenses, it feels like it is pretty mature, without the need for a whole lot of new primes at this point. Currently, Pentax makes -- 14mm, 15mm, 21mm, 31mm, 35mm, 40mm, 43mm, 50mm (2), 55mm, 70mm, 77mm, 100mm, 200mm, 300mm, and 560mm. While you can pick small holes, most things are covered. Pentax has chosen not to make fast lenses -- mainly because they want to keep their lenses small and I don't expect them to churn them out now. Pentax has chosen (wisely in my opinion) not to make a lot of lenses that overlap with focal lengths/max apertures of lenses that Nikon and Canon offer. They haven't been Nikon and Canon in the past, they aren't going to start now.
