Great News

I was hopeing for a full frame from Pentax I love my K3 . It will be interesting to see the size and as the Sony A7 and Nikon D810 seem to have the market.

Perfect Camera?

Is it the size of the Sony A7 , Mirrorless but yet has better lens selection and balance for superzooms.
We still require Big Glass for quality while the Cameras can be pint size, Maybe we need a fake housing that we place the pint size camera in just to balance it when we need Big Glass?????. Your thoughts?

I know there is still a huge market for big cameras. Look at Canikon full frames. People love those huge and heavy things.

Ricoh would not be wrong if they build a FF camera that is slightly larger than K3, but still smaller than Canikon FF.

There are tons of people who would jump on that camera, even if it's functionally the same as K3, just with a larger FF sensor.

My hands didn't decreased in size since mirrorless appeared. I still like a comfortable grip. When using a larger lens, the grip is even more important.
The likes of A7 just don't cut it.

A7II should be better.
Actually i/you could use Panasonic GH5, Olympus E-M1 and Samsung NX-1, because these cameras have "K-3 like" grips.

None of them is as good as a K-3/K-5 (for my hands), with the Panasonics being constantly quite bad, and the NX-1 surprisingly good comparing with other Samsungs - but still not up there. I'll try the A7II someday, out of curiosity, if I can be bothered to...
The best Pentax DSLR is the 645z. The worst, I guess the K-S1. I hope they'll go with something like a K-3-645z hybrid...

The cameras with very best ergonomics ever, for me, were the K10d and K20d. With the new K-7 design my pinky falls off and supports the camera awkwardly from the bottom. After that nerf in ergonomics I quickly accepted that camera ergonomics isn't all that important if you don't hold it for hours on end. Now my cameras may be shaped like cube for all I care. The end result all that matters. So IQ and portability are most important.

I'm also keeping my pinky under the camera with my K-5IIs, but it's not uncomfortable. With the K-3 though that's not the case, I find its grip an improvement.
The 645z is a joy.

I agree, a body just slightly larger than the k3 would work fine.

it's not the "Big" that is a problem, more the "Heavy" i think. When i play with the 40D +70-200/2.8 of a friend, the combo is wayyyy to heavy, but the size is nice to hold overall.

The Pentax branded FF will have that selectable mirror translucency thingie?
And a hybrid OVF/EVF? Which also means, best of both phase detect and contrast detect AF can offer?
Because all those technologies are made for each other.

So, don't expect your boring A7 or D810 dreams. I am expecting something much better next year.

I agree - heavy is not good. A friend brought his A7R and Sony 70-200 F4 the other day. The A7R is lighter than my K3 and just a bit, not much, smaller. Not sure i want to go that direction or not. But the Sony 70-200 F4 didn't seem larger or heavier than my favorite 50-135 F2.8 Pentax. Than i found out what the cost difference between an F4 and F2.8 is - wow - quite sure that i'll never get a 70-200/2.8. Too much weight and size for just one lens in the bag

I totally agree with you and have therefore kept the K10D. Old as it may be, it's still better a camera than me a photographer.
