Parts of Detroit are supposedly getting better (like Greektown), but I don't go down there very often.

A work buddy says that when he goes down to Detroit for an event, he runs all of the red lights to avoid getting car jacked. He also avoids taking the interstate freeway through Detroit in the off chance that his car brakes down!

Wow! That sounds like Johannesburg (South Africa)! I visited Dearborn years ago, but never Detroit itself.

Detroit is on average at least five times worse than Dearborn.

If you're there in the morning you're fine, though. I do NOT recommend running the red lights, that's just silly.

I've been stopped at knifepoint at 11pm, near 10 mile road in Royal Oak township. Some guy stepped out of a bar, and told the dude to leave us alone. I have no idea who the guy who saved us was, but visiting a local church the next day, I saw him in church. If you're young and stupid, you learn not to be stupid real quick... or you don't I guess. Amazing music in that church...
real Holy Rollers. The choir singing people passing out yelling "the spirit got me, the spirit got me" and being carried out, only to run back in again and pass out again. If you've never been to church in Royal Oak Township, you are truly missing something.
